Just Breathe
"At the rate you are going - you will be dead in 6 years" said my pulmonary doctor in 2005 - and he was right. July, 2011 my lung function was 26% and I was accepted by the Duke Hospital Transplant Team for a double lung transplant. When my lung function was only 17% on Feb 10, 2012, I received a pair of lungs as a generous gift from a stranger: my donor. Medication will be a life long part of my life - which has caused a lot of weight gain: Good health, diet and exercise will have to be a regiment I maintain in order to succeed in enjoying life to its fullest...so here I am, still recovering, but strong enough to take next steps. I look forward to learning and growing with other SparkPeople.

My Goals:
I hope to build up my strength enough to go kayaking for the first time in the Spring 2013. I would like RUN a 5K instead of walk it. I would like to be able to carry a loaded backpack on a 25 mile three day hike. Can't wait to be ME again - but will be happy with a goal of 150 for now!
My Program:
My plan currently accommodates my pre-diabetic status, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Pretty bland meal plans for now. Hope to stay motivated with the exercise: treadmill, elliptical, recumbent bike, stretching and strength. Really like a couple miles through the woods when time and weather permit.
Personal Information:
I am a disabled US Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger from Philpott Lake VA in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I was on oxygen for three years before I had a double lung tansplnt.
