My name is Sam and I have 2 boys, Bailey who is 6 and Chase who is 2 years old as of June 20! My hubby, Courtney, and I have been married for just over 6 years. I am currently pregnant with our third, a little GIRL, that we have named Ariella Rose. She is due to arrive on Oct 5/08.
During junior high and high school I was a competetive figure skater. I was a bit on the bigger side compared to some of the other girls, but I was very muscular and in awesome shape. I weighed about 125lbs during my skating career. When I was 14, I tore the tendons in my ankle and was no longer able to skate which was absolutely devistating.
Slowly but surely the weight crept up. During the rest of high school I was about a size 12, but pretty happy with it. Before I got pregnant with my first, Bailey, I had gained about 25lbs and was then a size 16. I remember my very first doctors appointment I weight 190lbs. I can't remember how much I weighed after his birth, but 6 months after his birth I weighed in at 257lbs.
Flash forward to when Bailey was about 2. We decided to start trying to conceive our second child. After about a year and a half we had not yet conceived. I went to the dr and was eventually diagnosed with PCOS, which is an endocrine (hormonal) disorder which affects many physiological process, including menstration and fertility. PCOS symtoms are worsened with increased weight.
Well finally after 3 years, several rounds of clomid, I conceived Chase with the help of two drugs, Metformin and Avandia. At my first drs appt I weight 236lbs. During my pregnancy I didn't gain much weight at all. Two week post partum, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight of 236lbs.
I joined SP in late March 07 weighing 231.5lbs. I worked hard over the Spring and Summer and managed to reach my second STG of 209 in early Sept 07. Just prior to meeting this goal, I went back to work after maternity leave and totally feel off my program. I know I let alot of people down and felt really badly about how bad I had slipped, especially since I was so active with SP priod to commencing work. I had a very hard time even logging into SP because I felt so badly for letting so many people down. From early Sept 07 to early Feb 08(5 months), I gained back about 10 lbs. Based on how hard I fell, I'm actually surprised I hadn't gained back more weight.
In early Feb, I also found out that I was expecting our third and final miracle. I weighed in about 5 days after finding out I was pg and weighed 219lbs. Today (6/5/08), 23 weeks pg, I weigh 234 lbs. A gain of 15 lbs in the past 23 weeks. I have no been eating very healthy and have not been exercising. Both of which I know are very important during pregnancy.
I'm back at SP to ask all those I dissapointed to please forgive me for leaving and I'm here to take control of my pregnancy. My goal is to restart a moderate exercise program including light weight training, light cardio, and yoga. I also will start back on my Insulin Resistance Diet (very similar to a Gestational Diabetes Diet) which is what helped me lose the most weight over the summer. I don't know what my goals are inregards to weightloss/gain. I suppose I will just have to let my body decide what it's going to do.

I plan to do this use the program outlined below.
Moderate Cardio 5X/wk 45min
Light Strength 3X/wk Total Body (no obs)
Following the IR Diet, which is basically the linking of carbs with protein. For every 15 grams of carbs, you have to link it to 7 grams of protein (min). Max 30 carbs per meal, meals a min of 2 hours appart. That's the basics.
For cardio I enjoy walking and I am also participating in the Couch to 5 K running plan.
I am a brand new University graduate. I just got my Bachelor of Arts with a Psychology major and an Anthropology minor.
I also just got a new position as an Adolescent Mental Health Councellor. Looking forward to making a different in the young women's lives!
