I am a Southern, conservative, pastor's wife who loves the Lord with all her heart. I hit 254 pounds about 7 years ago. I lost 90 pounds. Got tired of "counting points" so I quit for a short break. Well, that short break turned into gaining 30 pounds back. So, now those pounds are gone. I worked really hard during 2011 to shed those extra pounds. Now, I am only 6 pounds away from losing 100! I ran my first half marathon March 25, 2012. Second half marathon will be in Myrtle Beach on May 20, 2012. I cannot wait. I try to work out at least 5 days a week. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But, the important thing is that I'm living a healthy life. Diets don't work. Healthy living does!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!
1. Keep a food journal on a daily basis.
2. Get encouragement from others.
3. Exercise whenever possible.
1. Keeping track of my caloric and fat intake by tracking through sparkpeople.
2. Run 3 miles 3 times a week, Run 1.5 miles 2 times a week with strength training.
3. Pray! Pray! Pray!
I am from Wilson's Mills, North Carolina. Wilson's Mills is a very small town just 30 miles east of Raleigh, the state capital.
My husband is the pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Four Oaks, NC. I play the piano, lead the youth ministry, and do whatever else he tells me to do!

I saw your post on a question about Body by VI and was motivated!! I too lost weight and started running! I have run several 5K's and just recently have a goal to run a mini marathon. I had some feet issues that stopped me from running longer miles. But that is taken care of by my podiatrist :) I have a daughter whose friends mother is selling Body by VI and she too is not pushy! I have a busy schedule and have not had the time to get back to the gym as I had in the past. My runs went from 6 miles a week to only 2-4 miles a week. My schedule has been changed at work and I think it will be a good one to get back to my work out routine. But always in a hurry and this sounds like a great thing to give a try! Thanks

Hi! I just wanted to reiterate that my post was in no way a slight against GOD or religion. I was born and raised on a dairy farm and have been a fundamental Christian since I was 14 years old. I know that the term "scientific" (which I used in my post) does turn some Christians off and that was not my intention. I only posted to help everyone with sharing some knowledge that I have. I never meant to make the Christ-Loving community feel excluded. I'm sorry if that was the outcome of my post when you read it.
I was attempting to share solid "steps" toward being a healthier person and thereby take out some of the overwhelming feelings that come with creating a healthy lifestyle and losing lots of weight.
Anyway thank you for your comment it did remind me of some sensitivities that others have and know that I meant no offense or disrespect.

Congrats on taking the next step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.
Please check out the SparkTeams - I think you will find a lot of others 'just like you' there. You can choose SparkTeams by age group, lifestyle or interests, geographic location or several other ways - some of the teams you might like include the Official 10-minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge, Starting Over Weekly Mini-Challenge Team, 10k Steps A Day and Motivation & Positive Attitude Plan but there are so many to choose from, you can have a great time looking for the ones that seem to fit you best! In fact, I suggest joining more than one group, post your intro there and write blogs as often as you can - you will find tons of friends and support that way, I promise!!
In my experience, SparkPeople is like a in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' so it's good for people wanting to lose weight, maintain a previous loss, get healthier, improve fitness and many other goals - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!
If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.
If you haven't already discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.
Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!
