Finding Myself

I'm a happily married woman over 50. My husband loves me as I am, but I'm less than thrilled with the extra pounds -- and neither is my doctor.

My goal is to get my mom (who lives with us), my husband myself all on the same healthy eating and moving page. We need to all three of us do it or we end up foiling the plans of the other two. My husband is the best at setting and reaching goals and neither my mom nor I are big fans of exercising. I love to go for long walks and hope to ...

My goal is to get my mom (who lives with us), my husband myself all on the same healthy eating and moving page. We need to all three of us do it or we end up foiling the plans of the other two. My husband is the best at setting and reaching goals and neither my mom nor I are big fans of exercising. I love to go for long walks and hope to be able to start that again, soon. I also want to start yoga classes when I finish the therapy for my back. That is something maybe I can encourage my mom to do (and maybe my sister).

I love to read and love/hate to write and I spend a lot of time doing both here on my computer. In the summer I will be doing some gardening, but I don't really do enough to call it exercise most of the time. I watch about seven hours of TV a week. I also like to do a little craft sewing and occasional cross stitch.

Oh, I'm pretty sure I gained way more than 4 pounds some years, too, but I was averaging out the gain - some years I just maintained, some I gained, some I may have lost a little. After all, I didn't really do the weight-watching thing most of my life. I'd weigh, but only just to know where I was - I still liked what I saw in the mirror, I guess - fooling oneself is really easy! :)

But on average, I only gained 4 a year from my young=adult days and weight - that's the "goal weight" on my ticker right now, so I averaged the weight from those days up to beginning SP last year - that's how I arrived at the 4-gained-per-year number.

And for losing - well, even if we only lose ONE pound a month, that's still 12 in a year. And a slow loss means that we won't have the loose surplus skin issue ... I like the idea of letting my body adjust to the new weights a little at a time. I also don't like pressure, so a slow loss works well for me - I eat a little healthier, work out a little more, no stress ... the weight continues to come off a little at a time, maybe just half a pound a week, and that's actually fine by me! :)

You will do this - I notice you're hovering on the brink of being in the 190s ... come on in, the water's lovely! :)

Cheers,
Maya

Thanks for your info on the dried beans and letting me know to save the water to use on plants outside. Vary good tip. Hugs Diane

I know what you mean aobut Cosco. One of their packages of cereal would last me 24 months or more. It would spoil.

Thanks for stopping by my page.
