Hello! I'm a 24 year-old American living in Tokushima, Japan. I teach English to elementary school kids, grades 1-6. I've been living in Japan for the past two years, though I will be going back home to attend grad school this fall.

So basically, I was all over SP for a while and then faded in and out several times. Long story short, I'm mentally much healthier now than I have been in the past three years.

A few things have changed:
- I became a vegetarian earlier this year for a variety of reasons, but primarily because I find slaughtering practices inhumane. I also don't think humans were meant to subsist on meat, though some groups may occasionally eat it.

- I realized how much sugar was driving my binging habits, and I'm sugar abstinent now. That means I don't eat cake, cookies, chocolate, sweetened drinks, candy, sweetened yogurts or ice cream, WHITE BREAD (my nemesis)!!!

It sounds extreme, but it's easier for me to stay away from those things completely than to eat them in moderation.

-I also shun processed foods. I don't buy them for myself and seldom eat them unless I have no other choice.

My Goals:
I want to shape my life around the way humans evolved to function. By moving, eating natural foods and by just appreciating and enjoying life.

My Program:
No meat, fish or animal products.

Limited dairy and eggs (though I'm working on going vegan).

Moving! I quit jogging last summer after working up running 5k, three times a week. Now I'm trying to get back into it but I'm working on improving by gait by going barefoot/minimal shod. I also enjoy walking.

Personal Information:
I'm from Pennsylvania and went to uni in Albany, NY. I now live in Tokushima, Japan, but will be moving to Boston in August to go to grad school

Other Information:
I love art and history. My dream is to become a museum curator specializing in East Asian Art.

I also like pirates, vampires, and Camui Gackt, stationary and pens, any music, Ikea furniture, anything old world, vintage photos esp. French, languages, shopping for kitchen appliances and dinnerware, museums, mountains....anything clear, naturally beautiful and simple.

Hey there, thanks for leaving a comment. I've been away from SP for a long time too. I haven't lost weight since November, but haven't gained any either so I guess I should be pleased with that.
I just read your updated profile and I have to say that staying away from sugar is the best! it's what I did last year when I started out and after about 3 or 4 weeks, it just becomes a habit, sugar isn't appealing any longer. Maybe I should start that again, 'cause lately I'm having too many chocolate cookies. Ouch.

So you're leaving Japan. I wish you all the best, and maybe one day you'll be back?
Stay in touch here on SP. I'm gonna try to visit the site at least a few times a month.
Hang in there hun!

Oh yeah, we had a lot of rain on Monday too, it was awful! But I've only experience earthquake once in my country, so 3 times in a week was kinda scary!
Hope you're doing fine!
