Losing weight with chronic illness:
See the picture of me just before a 1 mile race in March 2010? Back then, my illnesses (fibromyalgia, Sjogren's Syndrome, hypothyroidism, and migraines) were difficult but I could find ways to do much of what I wanted. However, since late summer, those problems have intensified. There is no way that I can run a 1 mile race right now. I can barely walk a block due to the pain of my illnesses. Yet, I still have a positive outlook and try to look at the funny side of things. All of this has led to an abrubt change in how I look at weight loss. As I try daily just to handle my basic requirements, I am not as hard on myself about needing to lose weight which, suprisingly, has led to weight loss. I do not keep a journal of my food other than to track for triggers that may worsen my conditions and I do not exercise to burn calories but to ease the stiffness and maintain some degree of mobility. Adjusting my medications has helped tremendously too. The munchies are gone and I no longer feel it necessary to drink soda for the caffeine. I have been using this site for awhile now and, for me, it has been somewhere to go when I need to take my mind of the things I cannot change. Here I have found others with the same health issues I have and the same struggles I have who have also been trying to look on the brighter side of life.

My Goals:
Be able to walk for 30 minutes three days a week.
My Program:
Walking program: start out walking 2 minutes three times a day, three days a week and gradually build to walking 10 minutes three times a day, three days a week.
Personal Information:
I live in Sioux Falls, SD, although I am originally from the Black Hills of South Dakota. Every so often, I dream of moving somewhere that doesn't reach the 100s during the summer and my boyfriend dreams of a place that doesn't go below 40 in the winter.
Other Information:
I love to do so many things: reading, writing, listening to music, dancing, playing video games, watching movies and television, baking, cooking, and photography. I make jewelry when my hands cooperate (which is not often). I have Sjogren's Syndrome, hypothyroidism, fibromyalgia, damaged discs in my spine, chronic bursitis in my hip, and possibly psoriatic arthritis. I live in chronic pain and can't do much most of the time which has definitely contributed to my weight gain as have the medications I take. Ideally, I would like to lose 100 pounds, but I think I'll just settle for 10 pounds right now.
