Lisa Changes Her Life

I was never a small person, but I got married in 2005 and gained forty pounds in short order. I went to the doctor for a routine physical and was extremely irked to find myself classified as "obese." Because I'm 5'10" without my shoes, it's hard for my friends and family to see me as that overweight--and it's been a struggle to feel supported as I try and improve my health and my life. I'm so grateful that my sister introduced me to SparkPeople!

My Goals:
1. I will consciously choose not only what I eat, but also how much.
2. I will continue to indulge my weaknesses (like alcohol and dessert) in moderation.
3. I will strength train twice a week and do cardio twice a week.
4. I will only weigh myself once a week.

My Program:
I do a pilates/toning class twice a week with my mom and my sisters. My job keeps me very active (over 12000 steps on an average day), so it's hard for me to motivate myself for additional cardio. I love playing DDR.

Other Information:
My husband is currently struggling with his weight, but he's not quite at the point where he's ready to make a lifestyle change in order to lose weight. I am hoping that he will join me on my journey very soon!

I get where you are coming from about not thinking you may look as big as you may be. It was a reality check for me when the doctor told me I was obese, but when I look in the mirror I didn't seem that big. But It is good that we are working to get things where we want them to be.

You seem to be doing very well and I hope you keep up the good work. Let me know how you do throughout the weeks.

Saw your comment on 'Everything in Moderation'; it is so true about eating slowly. I was raised in a family with 7 LARGE boys and 1 sister. It was either scarf down the food or go hungry!!! And it is an extremely hard habit to break. And then I married a man who learned how to scarf down his food in Navy boot camp. He watches what he is doing but still eats very fast. He has been a help and has joined SP himself(billa847). Hope your husband will get the idea and start to lose his weight and help you with progress. Having a 'BUDDY', especially a close one, makes a big difference

Hey, we all have a bad day (or two or three) but I'm glad you're not giving up!
