Gotta start training for the AT!!!

Hi All! My name is Cecelia & I am getting back on track after a brief derailment this year due to a hectic college and work load. I finish nursing school next year and will be thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail starting in Mar-Apr 2012. I currently weigh 208 and would like to be down to at least 140 by the time I get started on my hike. I have never been a dieter, but realized this year that I have really let my weight get out of control and now it's time for me to do something about it.

7/31/10: 193 lbs
8/31/10: 190 lbs
9/30/10: 182 lbs

-Run my first 10k by 5/31/11
-Thru-hike all 2175 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 2012

My Program:
My new "Exercise" goals:
--Hike at least 1x/week locally
--Kayak at least 1x/week
--Train for my first 5k using the C25K program (3 days/week)
--Get outdoors as much as possible!!!
--Save cardio (elliptical) and strength training for rainy days :)

So for daily goals:
--Stay within my calorie range (currently 1300-1550) and track my food daily.
--Track my "exercise" daily.
--Track my steps daily (I like to carry this anyway to see how many I take)
--Drink (10) 8 oz cups of water daily (equals one Brita pitcher)
--Sleep a minimum of 6 hours per night (this is a biggie, because I have the most erratic sleeping habits)

I'm doing the back to school challenge with you and just wanted to say after reading that you kayak I'm setting that to be my goal by my birthday. I want to go kayaking and start setting the plans now so that I can't turn back. So thank you for the fun idea :)

Fellow kayaker here, and new to SP--at a similar place in my goals, too. Welcome! I don't live very far off the AT, too, so maybe when you come through town we can holler at each other! Have fun on your kayaking adventure--hope you post some stories/pics about the day!
