Hi. My name is Maritza and I'm 33. Back in October 2005, I started to write in my journal. I started asking myself those important questions we sometime do. Who am I? Why am I here? But most importantly, I asked myself "Am I happy? Sad to say that I wasn't happy. My whole life has been a closed book. A book that only I had the possibility to look into. So I've done some changes in my life. I'm geting closer to happy. And I'm doing these changes JUST FOR ME. It feels good to be able to look at myself now and know that I don't need approval from the world to know I'm OK or happy. I've faced things in my life these past few months that I haven't faced in my whole 33 years of life. I'm glad that I've decided to face life as a whole finally. I don't have to live as a closed book. I'm me and I'm getting a lot closer to happy. For me that's big. Yes I was always able to laugh with others; but it's those times when I'm alone that I used to hate because I didn't know who I really was. Now, I don't need to hide. Where I came from does not define me. I know who I am and I'm glad to say I like who I am.

Personal Information:
Originally from NYC; I now live in CT. I recently have faced many changes in my life. One of the major changes I've faced is accepting who I am and where I came from. Since January 2006 I have made some drastic changes in my life (I bought a house, left my prior job of 4+ years to further my career) I now have a great job that I am learning to love and I have a six year old son.

The best personal information that I can share with you is: Only I can make myself happy.

Other Information:
I'm a counselor and I've decided to put my counseling analysis to work on my weight goal. If you know what you have to do to reach a goal it isn't worth anything if you don't put it into practice.

I am proud of you. I can't say I know from personal experience about being a single mommy, but you are working hard and that hasn't gone unnotice. I truly admire your dedication and devotion. You are a blessing to me and to our team.

Maritza, your words above touched me and brought tears to my eyes. So inspirational -- and they made me think about what I need to do as well. Then I read your journal (I hope you don't mind - it was public) and I welled up even more. You are doing so well handling the things you've gone through family-wise and handling making yourself healthy and fit physically and mentally. Your page and story is so encouraging to me -- thank you. And your son is so adorable too. Keep up the excellent work!

Maritza, you go girl , you will have abs to die for, doing all those crunches.
Your son is a real cutie; I love his picture in the pot.
You are doing such a good job with the exercise and I know it will pay off soon.

You are a wonderful person. I am keeping you in my prayers that this rough patch will end soon and you can have more free time with your son. I love his pic in the pot. You are doing a wonderful job and I very glad that we are on the same team. You are a blessing. I commend you for working hard for you and your son. Just know that I am here for you.

Maritza, thank you for sharing your experience with the war, and the heart ache... Sometimes memories haunt us, and cause us to do, think, and be things that are not ideal.
