Hello. I'm 34 years old, a print/graphic designer by trade, and an artist in the evenings. I live with my boyfriend (of 10 years) and our cat, in the chicagoland area. I am actively changing my life to become the happier healthier person I want to become. I was a skinny kid until puberty hit and then I started gaining. I've been successful losing weight on a number of occasions, but have always gained it back plus some. I really want this time to be the last time and to beat the odds. I'm a work in progress.
I originally discovered sparkpeople in the spring of 2007. I had some success but it was very slow going. I stayed strictly within my calorie range but only managed to lose 40 pounds after 7 months. It was very frustrating and often I'd have to avoid the scale knowing that the hard work I was doing wasn't showing the results I felt I deserved. The holidays hit and I slipped down that slippery slope and stayed there for a year and a half. All along I would constantly say to myself "today will be the day I recommit to sparkpeople and logging my calories and workouts" and I rarely would make it through the day before giving into temptation and to just accept life in an obese body I loathed.
At the beginning of 2009 I made a list of things I wanted to accomplish during the year. Like a life list, but instead of saying "someday, before I die, I want to..." I made a list that said "This year I will..." One of those things was to get back on sparkpeople and to get down to a size 16 within the year. Because it wasn't a new years resolution it didn't happen right away. I didn't want to jump in when I wasn't mentally ready. Apparently in the middle of May I was finally ready, and I've been tracking my calories ever since. Fortunately, I've discovered this time around that if I continue to eat within the calorie range that sparkpeople provides AND avoid sugar, my weight has been dropping more steadily. I'm finding success the second time around much easier, and without the frustrations I battled in 2007.

update: 1.10 what can I say, the holidays hit me hard. But, it's January now and I'm back in action and ready to continue. I'd love to have lost 75 pounds by my one year mark in May.
3.15.10 210 uh-oh crept back up a bit. Not too worried though, as I know I'm still around the same weight and one day of eating better, coupled with drinking more water and I'm back at 207. When the weather gets better I'm sure things will fall into place.
7.15.10 215 - you can see where this is going. I've been stuck, stuck, stuck. Unfortunately, although my heart wants to continue, my brain seems content to eat poorly and stay around the same weight. Hopefully thing will change soon.
1.15.10 226 New Year and a fresh start. I put on 25 pounds between halloween and new years. Too much candy! It's mid January and I've taken off 10 of those pounds and am on track with nutrition and getting 30 minutes of movement everyday.

Lose weight, be comfortable in my own body, run 1 mile.
Short term goal: onederland. Losing enough weight that I can fit into older clothes that haven't fit for a long time. Possibly buy some new things as well.
Long term goal: to be inside my ideal body weight range 120-155 lbs.
I am following sparkpeoples program, watching what I eat, consuming more water, and I'm finding that avoiding all sweets is working marvelously this time around. I have been tracking steps in the fitbit since August 2013 and keep 10,000 steps daily, i ride bike and exercise from home.
