Ok, so I'm back after another substantial lapse. I had a bit of a GI and scale scare which led me to the GI doc and a specialist who recommended the South Beach Diet. I got the audio book and have been looping that in my car for weeks. Salamanda and I are now entering week 3 of Phase 1 (yeah, we know to mix things up and not stay here forever) and are loving the results already and this is really without any exercise to speak of.

We are look forward to getting back to the gym and on the streets. We just did the Dad's Day 5 K with her family and have at least two 1/2 Marathons, and some shorter distance races planned in the next year or so. Would also love to save up for some bikes and eventually get in a sprint distance triathalon as well . . . .

Rewinding a bit . . . . I was doing pretty well back in 2005 when I was training for the 2005 Houston Half-Marathon (my first anywhere) with USA fit. I had a pretty regular training partner soon after, but lost touch with him, and he eventually moved away. I let some mood, personal issues, famililiar habits, laziness and sloth take over and have since hit my highest weight ever. I need to be much neared to 200 than 300 that I have been. No more.

I want to look more like the picture on the left once again. I'll find another even better looking pic of me from some time ago too.

A Note on South Beach Diet: Try South Beach if you are having a hard time losing weight. It isn't super fast - after Phase I - as it is a lifestyle change, but it seems to me to be the only thing that can really work.

You need to be disciplined, organized, adventurous, willing to cook, and willing to spend more time and money in getting the right foods into your kitchen and body.

The food does taste great and you will find that you like or even love healthy foods you never knew existed or at least that could be used in a particular way. You don't need to eat any special foods out of a package or even really keep that close a tab on how much or what you eat so long as you keep an eye on the base guidelines - good fats and good carbs. Check out the groups here on Spark for more info. We'd love to see you on the Beach too . . .

Best of luck to all and cross your fingers and toes that this time I can stick with it!

My Goals:
To fit in my Armani Suit again, wear nothing larger than XL again (unless due to crazy muscle growth). To look good with my top off. To be "able to" but not necessarily wear a speedo. To be truly healthy an have more energy again.

Log my food - Realize what little ingredients and spices can make basic things taste better. Work up to exersing 4-6 times a weel. Drink less coffee, drink more tea and water. Drink alcohol only for special events or weekends from time to time.

Personal Information:
I hail from Illinois and lived there until I was about 5. Moved to CA for about 15 years before going to school . . . back in IL. Now, obviously, I'm in Houston and seeing how things here in the quasi south. A bit too hot and humid here.

Other Information:
I used to be a bartender and still secretly wish I could moonlight a bit again. I love musicals and acting. Would love to act and/or sing again too. Any theatre folk here in there area looking for a lyric baritone? I'm a HP fan, love magic in general, and love mysteries too . . .
