As a gift to myself when I turned 40, I decided to begin a healthier lifestyle. I began working out in the "gym" in my basement. My original goal is to be healthier and continue this lifestyle for the duration, not on a temporary basis.

I'm not proud of myself, and I know I need to change, so I'm hoping that I can get back on track and accomplish the goals I attained last year. I ran 5K's regularly, did the Trek Across Maine for the American Lung Association, which was about 180 miles on bike. I was in the best shape until pneumonia hit and I haven't been the same since.

I've already beat myself up for a year for not doing anything, and with this wake up call, I've got a lot of work to do.

My Goals:
I've already lost 10 pounds, but I'd like to lose another 8. I want to do this while developing healthier habits of what I put in to my body and my physical activity. I also want to challenge myself physically by achieving new goals all the time. My first one is running a 5K, then later riding 20 miles.

My Program:
I've been working out with various workout videos and walking/running on the treadmill. However, lately, with the 5K approaching, I've been focusing more on the running, trying to increase my time and mileage.

Personal Information:
I'm a middle school teacher in a rural town in Maine, right on the border of Maine and New Brunswick.

Other Information:
I enjoy reading and writing, but lately I've been attached to my computer communicating on Facebook and Sparkpeople. I'll need to start readjusting my priorities.

Hello there Fellow Mainer...how has your Summer been? Running outdoors? I came across an older post of yours on the Runner Girls United page, and you mentioned mostly running on the Dreadmill...Winter is coming fast, isn't it? And you in the North get it much sooner than we do down South...
I see you're a cyclist too...I've started to enjoy that as well. Nice break from running, for sure.
