Hello and Welcome to my page, I have been on SparkPeople for about 7 Years now, and yes I have had my moments of inactivity or ‘falling off the wagon’ over those 7 Years but I personally believe that it was due to me having sever bouts of depression and being scammed by a Doctor at a weight clinic where now this same Doctor is on the run from The F.B.I. however I now can say that all has changed. It has got to the point that I’m on here more than I’m on facebook. If you would have told me that ...
If you would have told me that I would be on this site more than facebook a few months ago I would have said to you “You’re crazy!” But now I am working from home trying to write a book or two and see where that goes for me. I’ve been out of full time work for a few years and I only have been getting Part-Time and Seasonal Work. (It was something to pay the bills.)
You will see near the bottom of the page there is a weight tracker at the bottom of the page. At first I was upset what the scale said and I only admitted it to a few people. But after a few weeks of blowing up about it I figured 'What the heck, Right!' Plus it would be a way for a few people I know who use this site (friends & family) to do a quick check of my page and see where I'm at.’ Back in 2006 I went to a Private Practice Weight Clinic where I was seeing some progress and at first I thought it was a good thing. But everything got to the point where it seemed that I was paying more to this Weight Clinic than I was for anything else. Not to mention they charged you for parking as well. Unfortunately I had to stop going to this clinic, I felt bad about it too because I was trying to slim down some for my Best Friend’s Wedding at the time. Later I found out that the Doctor who was running this weight clinic was committing Insurance Fraud and was taking advantage of his patients as well. (This of course explained all of the charges I was encountering with this clinic.) In September of 2012 I was having some serious medical issues that severely hindered my way of life and deep down inside me I knew there was something wrong. I mean I’m 45 (at the time) and was needing a cane to get around, using those dammed mortised carts to get around the store. Don’t get me wrong I know there is a use for them and good for the people who honestly need them, but for someone who just let themselves go? No there shouldn’t be any reason for someone like me to use those things. So one morning I woke up, looked at how everything was going for me, (Not to mention having several recent arguments with my Girlfriend at the time where her hurtful words and name calling was still ringing fresh in my ears.) I decided that enough was enough I had to do something to improve my life. I was thinking of going back to the Private Practice Weight Clinic, well of course after knowing that the FBI was hunting down the Doctor who ran it for Insurance and Medicare/Medicaid fraud my thinking was “No, I don’t think I want to go back there… Hell that explains all of the cash I was giving the place.” So while at my Primary Care Doctor for a routine visit I asked him his idea of places to try that might take my insurance. He told me to stick with weight clinics that are associated and ran by some of the local hospitals. Then you won’t have to worry about paying crazy fees and such. I called a few in my area and found one that was able to work with my insurance. After a few months they suggested that I get the ‘Roux-en-Y’ (RNY) or better known as The ‘Gastric Bypass’ Procedure done. In Late April of 2013 I went to the hospital to have the procedure done and I’ve been feeling better everyday since.
I have been asked by a few people 'How did you get the screen name ThePowerGuy?' Well it was one of those things that started innocent enough. How it happened is I use to work for a MAJOR Telecom Company. (I won't mention the name of the company because I don't know the whole legal bit and all... But I will tell you that it is a company that broke off from Ma Bell, and is now merging with a company based in another country) Until I was laid-off in June of 2001. In the company I was a member of the 'Power Maintenance Team' (We went to different phone companies central offices and made sure the Power Back-Up systems were working right in case your local power company had a blackout in your area.) and when we would walk in and begin doing what we needed to do we would hear things like "Hey, the power guys are here." and from there it just kinda stuck with me. I was one of those guys that had like 7 or 8 'altered ego' screen names because every system I tried to get an account with always had one of my screen names used by someone else. Then one day I tried 'thepowerguy' and it took.... then another web site, then another, you get the idea... Then I started converting all my other screen names to 'thepowerguy' soon enough I had just one s/n to remember... (Good thing too, It was getting hard to keep track of all of my altered egos. LOL)
After my lay-off from that company I bounced around from one place to another looking for something that challenged me enough. After I realized that I was only spinning my wheels at every 'Part-Time' job I had, Heck I even drove a School Bus for 5 years. But I think I'll hold on to 'THEPOWERGUY' Because I like it, and it become my identity on the net.
The story about me pretty much covers everything. But if there is something you need or would like to know. Send me a message and I’ll try to answer your question as quick as I can.

Hi, I'm Amina, I'm from Australia, and I just joined the High Blood Pressure team. I came to your page to leave a message thanking you for the welcome and offer of help, and started reading your page. Wow! I now know the origin of your Spark name, but having read the introduction on your page, I think the name 'The Powerguy' suits you. You may have had your ups and downs at the beginning, but to lost 150pounds is definite proof of the power (and determination) within you. Congratulations on such a wonderful effort!
for joining the "Writers' Support Group" team. I wish you much success with your weight loss. Take things one healthy meal, one exercise, one positive day at a time and always believe in yourself that you can do this, one pound at a time. -- Lou
