Shared Food & Fitness Trackers
I started on SparkPeople after I started getting too big for my current clothes. I was losing the fight against factors like:
New job where I drove to work instead of walk.
Desk job with frequent free food in the kitchen, including delicious desserts.
New co-worker with a partner that manages a cupcake shop and often brings in free cupcakes with interesting toppings.
Skinny boyfriend who could eat an entire cake and lose weight.
I decided to do something about it. With the help of SparkPeople, The Spark book, and the wonderful friends I've made here, I've lost over 20 lbs so far. The rewards have been co much more than the weight though.
Being healthier has become motivation itself. Clothes I couldn't wear starting fitting again. My boyfriend wants to start working out and building muscle. I've found work outs that are FUN and I am sad about missing!
Also, my 10 year high school reunion is this July 4th weekend. I had terrible self-esteem in high school, and the idea of getting back together with classmates and still being 'the fat one' didn't sound like fun. I'm DONE with that attitude! I will be healthier and more fit when I next see them. Even if I weigh more than every other girl (or person) there, I will have confidence. I am DONE judging myself for what others might think of me.
So now, I will remember to do myself a F.A.V.O.R. every day.
Flexible - I will remember that this is a lifestyle, not a diet. It's OK if I deviate from the plan for a meal, or a day, what's important is that I get back on track. If I don't make a planned workout, that's OK so long as I make it up. If I go over my calories, that's OK, I should just burn a few more.
Active - I will be active every day. Whether that is 10 minutes of yoga before bed, an hour of Zumba, or a 10 mile bike ride can vary, so long as I do something 'extra' toward my fitness goal every day.
Vigilant - I will track my food and fitness every day, for every bite that makes it in my mouth. I will strive to wear my pedometer every day and track my steps. I will have a plan for when I go overboard with my flexibility and get off track. If I gain weight, I will not beat myself up, but instead will have an action plan. I will Streak to keep myself motivated.
Optimistic - I will be positive. Instead of going on a downward spiral after a 'slip', I will learn from my mistakes. Every time I fall, I get more insight about what to do differently next time and I will stand taller for it.
Realistic - I will set small goals one at a time that I can achieve and be proud of. I'll build on my goals to challenge myself, but not set my expectations too high. I will, again, remember that this is a lifestyle for both food and fitness. I will remember that this is about becoming more healthy and fit, not just weight loss on the scale.
Do you do yourself a FAVOR everyday? What would your F, A, V, O, and R stand for?
Reminder: 1 pound is 4 sticks of butter! If hunger is not the problem, then food is not the solution!
Quotes that inspire me:
"Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together."
"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it come true. You may have to work for it, however."
"Things that were hard to bear are sweet to remember."
"Your stomach shouldnt be a waste basket."
"The future comes one day at a time."
"Don't dig your own grave with a fork & knife."
If hunger is not the problem, then food is not the solution!
"Do the thing you think you cannot do."
"In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity."
"When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."
"Do or do not. There is no try."
If you take one step back, take two steps forward!

People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing. That's why we recommend it daily!
Get to 210 lbs by July 4th and my 10 year HS Reunion - Reward: the goal is it's own reward!
Bike to work every day the week before my birthday 7/7.
5 lbs = New measuring spoons and cups (COMPLETE &
My calorie goal is 1250-1550 a day.
Currently I am working to get 10 minutes of cardio in every day, 5000 steps, and attend at least 2 Zumba classes a week.
I'm doing all my strength training at home, using workout videos, resistance bands, and an old Total Gym.
I live in Seattle with my boyfriend and our two kitties, Napoleon and Mew.
I started SP at the heaviest weight I've ever been and had to make a choice: Buy new pants in a size larger, or lose some weight.
I'm so glad I found SP!

Happy Birthday DONE GIRL
The symbol for Cancer is the Crab, with its protective shell. People with this Sun sign are sometimes also called "Moon Children," because the Moon is the ruler of the sign.
In Cancer the Sun is receptive and moody. You are a very sensitive person who is easily influenced by your environment. You are likely to be exceedingly protective of your feelings, as well as the feelings of those to whom you are close. Emotions are strong in your nature. You approach life with many feelings and a strong nurturing tendency. Your moods are varied and changeable. They are synchronized to the Moon, flowing in and out like the tide. You are acutely aware of the atmosphere of feelings surrounding you. You're skeptical and distrustful of people. It's not what they say, but simply the way they say it and the way you interpret their meaning.
You need to tell your deepest thoughts. When those around you are not receptive, you can become quite difficult to reach. The "crabby" part of Cancer shows up once in awhile, as well. When these moods are in control of your behavior, you can snap someone's head off for no reason at all. People you live around have to learn that you are not really angry with them. This is just the way Moon children are sometimes. By nature you are quiet and somewhat reserved, frequently retreating or putting up a protective barrier when you feel in any way threatened.
You are attuned to the past. You tend to cling to reminders and memorabilia of your family and of earlier times. Many Cancers are attracted to collecting antiques. You may be one of those people who collects just about everything. It's hard for you to part with something when there may be a chance need some rainy day, no matter how remote that chance may be. Cancers are the original "pack-rats."
You place much importance on the home and family. Your family or your "family of friends" is the center of your life. They provide you your sense of security and belonging. Your role in this environment is the source of your self-esteem and often overshadow your sense of individuality. It's hard to break away from your early upbringing and depart from the family traditions you have experienced. Cancer is the sign of motherhood. In both sexes, it produces a parenting instinct that is caring, protective, and indulging. Even unmarried Cancers adopt friends, co-workers, and neighbors in an extended family situation.
Hardworking and dedicated, you make an excellent employee. You are loyal and respect authority. This makes you supportive and protective of the boss and rarely questioning company policy. You do find it very difficult to handle change and disruption. If you are the boss, you like your employees to be dedicated as you are. Unfortunately, sometimes you may surround yourself with "yes men" who simply reinforce your decisions. You don't take chances or risk sweeping change.
Money is very important to you. Not for what it will buy or for the freedom it provides, but for the sense of security it provides. No matter what else is to be said of Cancer, security and having the protective shell in place, is overriding.
