Hiya, hon! All the formulas and charts vary a little. I like the one EMMAB1 posted just because it's simpler for me to sort of gage things from how much I'm huffing and puffing (lol). Since it's not really possible to determine exactly how much energy you expend in a step (that is, are you walking fast? slow? uphill? sauntering? window shopping? power-walking?) I give it my best estimate. For example, when I'm on the exercycle but I'm not putting much resistance on it and I'm not going flat-out, I can talk to the person next to me, and I tend to give those minutes the 85 steps each. But if I've got the resistance up and I'm going as fast as I can for as long as I can, I give those minutes a maximum number of steps. And when I'm working on HIIT (not that I do it very much!) I try to average the steps per minute, often giving it a simple 100 / minute, just to make the math easier. Hope that helps! And if it doesn't, drop me an email and we'll see if we can work out something more precise for you.
