Hi I'm Sarah! My story is below, but my focus isn't on the past anymore, it's on the future and making new goals to beat! I want to live life to it's fullest and be my best possible self.
6/24/14 I'm back at it! I'm starting a couch to 5k program tomorrow to try and get motivated to run again. I'm also loitering in SP back alleys and team corners. If you see me, ask me when the last time I ran is, or if I would like a glass of water. :)
2/10/12 I had lap band surgery on 12/21/11 and I've been working on my eating and exercise to make the best use of the tool I've been given. So far, so good! Life is full of changes right now, but I'm feeling positive and hopeful! I've totally changed the way I think about food, and I think that's the key to this whole thing - it really does HAVE to be a lifestyle change. I'm not sure when it happened, but I feel so lucky that it did happen for me. I focus on protein, vegetables and fruit, and I drink water. I avoid pretty much everything else, although this is MY LIFE not a "diet", so I can eat anything I want in moderation. I think that's really the key! Hang in there my friends, I believe that all of us can do this!

March 15 - Shamrock Run 5k - I DID IT!!!!! 3/15/09
April 19 - Bridges to Brews 8k (Portland, OR) - I DID IT! 4/19/09
May 30 - Starlight Run 5k (Portland, OR) - I didn't do this race - I did a mock triathlon at Vancouver Lake instead, and even though it wasn't pretty - I DID IT! 5/30/09
It was Thanksgiving 2007 and my Dad staged a weight loss intervention.
Everything in my life was going great - my career was on track, I was generally happy, I was having a great time with my band.. but I was more than 100 lbs overweight. My Dad was worried that my health was suffering and that my quality of life would only get worse at such a dangerous weight. I have never been a thin person, but I had never been as heavy as I was that day. The day I finally decided to make a change I weighed 284 lbs.
That day, my Dad made me an offer that would change my life forever - "go home and find a personal trainer and a gym and I will help you pay for it."
I am so grateful that he cared enough to call attention to something that I had stopped paying attention to years before.
I went home motivated to do something about this situation - I saw myself as I really was for the first time in years! I couldn't get up off the couch without effort, got out of breath walking up the stairs, and my eating was WAY out of control!!! I was eating anything I wanted, in any quantity, anytime I felt like it.
I came home and researched gyms in my area online. I knew I wanted to go to a women's gym where people were normal - not Barbie dolls. I joined NW Women's Fitness - the best gym in the world. I also got a personal trainer - Janice, the best trainer in the world - she has seen me through so much adversity and whining. I could not have done any of this without her. I heart Janice.
I tried Weight Watchers (second time) for 6 months and focused on training for a triathlon. It did not go very well by weight loss standards - I got incredibly fit, but I didn't lose a pound! The training showed me that I could be an athlete, and that being physically fit is MIND OVER MATTER. You really can do ANYTHING you set your mind to! I was 110 lbs overweight and was soon running, swimming and biking my way to the most physically fit I have ever been in my entire life. I worked out like a maniac - twice a day - and I was loving it. But I was not LOSING.
Due to an injury, I never did the triathlon and in fact, had to stop training altogether for a little while - but it is definitely in my future. I also realized that weight watchers was not working for me, so I made a very hard decision to stop. It's a good program but there was too much grey area for me. I was cheating myself out of losing weight through bargaining. "If I save up my points I can have this cake and beer..."
I had a friend who had lost weight on a program called Take Shape For Life, and so I decided to give it a try - what did I have to lose??? There was no grey area. You are on it or you're not. If you eat off plan, you don't lose. For me, this was the answer. I had to face the food addiction and bargaining that was keeping me from being successful - and now I feel I have learned how to be in control of myself and have the discipline it takes to be a thin person. I'm not thin by design, I'll have to be thin by CHOICE.
I have made so many friends and received so much support from my Spark friends - I can never thank you enough for what you have all done for me. I look forward to seeing less and less of you!
Reach my weight goal, and have so much fun doing it that it doesn't feel like work at all!

My real goal is to be healthy enough to get regular daily exercise doing things I love! Cycling, swimming, running, rock climbing, dancing, strength training - get out and be part of the world. Live life to it's fullest!

I've struggled with clinical depression - so if you need someone to talk to, I am someone who relates for SURE. I'm feeling pretty good right now :)
I'm a cat mom to two girls named Panqueque and Ozzy and a partner to Scott.
There have been so many changes, but when one door closes, another opens.
Things I want to do besides lose weight:
learn to surf
record an album of my original music - DONE 2015
learn to scuba dive
get my motorcycle endorsement and a bigger scooter

So Miss Sarah!!! I do believe that a while back you might have sent me a note saying that you were back! Sorry I didn't respond. Crazy summer got in the way. I came back (after a couple of years off) in the Spring and then that same crazy summer interfered. Anyway, I just came back and am determined to get it all together, get back on track and begin my 60s much healthier and lighter! Yeah, just hit a landmark on Sunday and did it hurt! So, let me know what is up with you.

I see that you are an Aquarian. The Aquarian child was some how an isolated only child who got a lot of attention from adults and was never really a "little kid." (This doesn't mean u were an ONLY child, but probably didn't have a sibling within 5 years of your age.) The Aquarian child is very smart but she can have a serious weight problem as she never learned to express her feelings, but she was told to "TALK" about them. Feelings really need to be expressed, not talked about.
Do be careful of ankle injuries as that is Aquarius' weak point & it can lead to knee problems. An Aquarius person is the type who can fall out with one friend, and go down the street and make a new BFF all in one day. Aquarius gets along with Sagittarius, Aries, Libra, Gemini and sometimes Leo. They don't do well with secretive, moody Scorpio.
Denise Austin is a great example of an Aquarian woman, as is Oprah, both wanting to save the world. Still, Aquarius needs to go inside and understand herself.

Hey hey Sarah!
I had to give up running a couple of years ago and have recently taken up cycling instead. I digz it way more than running! I also hit the gym 2-4 times a week, depending on my work schedule, plus I occasionally add in some walking time on my lunch break at work.
I am indeed a musician! Sadly, I've been forced to set it aside for a bit while I focus on my weight loss and on a healthier life balance with other priorities. I have an album halfway recorded that is now parked at the moment and it's driving me insane! I just want to get it done and start recording my newer songs!
