Becoming a better, new self

Only two years ago I was at 120 lbs, super active, super happy and in a very good place in my life. Now, I am almost 160 lbs, depressed, tired all the time, have bad skin, thin hair and simply cannot be bothered to do exercise. Most days I spend in front of my laptop watching TV shows while longing for some social interaction and outdoor sports.
I know I cant change all this from today to tomorrow; but I have to start changing at some point and this can only happen with baby steps. Every ...

My Goals:
I need to lose 30 pounds, start a new exercise program that involved social interaction, competition and progress (and is outdoors!), and learn and stick to the new Raw Food Lifestyle I discovered for me!

My Program:
I'm looking to join a running team, do the Mud Run here in Essex in January, join a professional kickboxing team and find people who want to go kayaking with me!

Personal Information:
I'm from Essex, a college student but working full time as well! A busy body who is always looking for a fitness buddy!

Today you have the choice to be amazing. Today you can do more than just try. You can succeed. You can be victorious. Today, you can rock your world. You can look yourself in the eye and smile... because you know that you are fighting for an amazing cause: YOU. And YOU are absolutely worth fighting for.

You can also do the same thing tomorrow.

"It's not whether you get knocked down; it's whether you get up." - Vince Lombardi

In honour of the upcoming Summer Olympic Games this Saturday in London, I give to you the Olympic Creed which is as true for the games as it is for achieving our own goals and dreams each and every day:

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

Today, you are a superhero, a survivor, a warrior, and a beacon to others for honouring yourself, your mind and your body; for making the choices that will make you an even better person tomorrow.

Today you are one step closer, because you decided to be. Fight strong, fight well, fight fair.

"Never, never, never, never give up." - Winston Churchill

Today is the unofficial "take happiness into your own hands" day. It's unofficial because I just made it up! (*grin*) But it seems like a great idea, right? Today, try not to be controlled by others... decide to be happy, decide to be great. Move forward as if all your dreams could come true today with no barriers standing in your way. Smile, laugh, and be amazing...

emoticon emoticon Because you ARE. emoticon emoticon

“I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.” - Groucho Marx

Welcome! If you need a shoulder, a friend or a virtual coffee at some point, drop by and say hello! I've just celebrated my SP eight month anniversary and am amazed at the absolutely incredible amount of support I've received. This is a fabulous site and you will be astounded at what you get out of it if you give it your all.

To celebrate your arrival at SP in this soon-to-be summer season, I would like to wish you a everlasting renewal of energy and passion, for this is a time to celebrate the great potential you possess. May the sun shine upon you and fire up your heart to reach all of your goals and find joy in yourself and the world around you. Whatever battles you are fighting, whatever stresses may come your way, may you find energy, confidence, vitality and strength. This is the time to shine bright and show the world how beautiful you are. Embrace the summer-lit brilliance of each day and you will create a new life where all your wildest dreams come true. ~ Michelle

emoticon on taking the first steps to a healthier you. A emoticon toast to a healthier and more enjoyable life! emoticon emoticon emoticon And emoticon prayerfully you will find that you can enjoy it more than you would ever imagine!!!
Some thoughts and suggestions as I say emoticon to Spark People.
emoticon This sight has so much to offer! One of the easiest ways to learn a lot about what it has to offer is to go to your "My SparkPoints" tracking Page. Next to each opportunity to earn Sparkpoints there is a link that will take you to the place on the site that helps you complete the task. Some are one time opportunities, others are daily tasks. Complete as many tasks as possible per day.
emoticon don't emoticon to the temptation of making the journey all about the numbers. It is not about pounds taken off or inches trimmed, it is all about creating a healthier and more fit you. emoticon
emoticon Be on the lookout for the many, many, many non-scale non-tape measure victories you will achieve. Feeling healthier, breathing easier, enjoying activities that were once a drudgery, trying something new and enjoying it, choosing a healthy snack versus an unhealthy option, choosing a less than healthy food option over a decadent food option! The possibilities for non-scale victories are ENDLESS. emoticon
Some things to remember: emoticon drink plenty of water every day!
emoticon sleep well, it is probably more important than you know. emoticon healthier every day. emoticon Don't go the way of total deprivation, it is apt to set you up for failure and a binge that will leave you feeling devastated. Look for opportunities to emoticon every day. emoticon when you need to --it is healthier than emotional eating! Find ways to emoticon emoticon emoticon exercise that you ENJOY. The right form of exercise is the one you can stick with regularly!!! Something else may burn more calories in a shorter time, but if it makes you give up you won't burn any calories! emoticon
emoticon MAKE EVERY STEP COUNT. Even steps that seem to move you backwards or to the side have a purpose. Sometimes it is just to get another look at something you passed by without noticing.
Perhaps most importantly from my perspective DON’T LOSE weight or inches…TAKE THEM OFF, emoticon KICK THEM TO THE CURB. You aren’t interested in FINDING them again. GET RID OF THEM through hard work, determination, accountability, whatever it takes!!!
Finally, join teams, make friends, encourage others, be encouraged, take challenges, write out SMART goals and track! Track! TRACK!!! It will help with both accountability and motivation, and you will be glad you did!!!
Feel free to stop by my page, let me know if there is anything I can do to help you in the journey!

Kudos to you for joining us here on the Raw Foodies Team. This will be one of the best decisions you have ever made. Sparkers come here and join this great team for a multitude of reasons. They may be curious about the health benefits of Raw Food and join to learn all about eating Raw. Many join for the weight loss. Many join the Team for a Detox. There are a great many people who do the Raw Food Diet as a Detox but then they realize how alive they feel and how the pounds melted away so effortlessly they decide to continue to eat this way. There are others who will join this Team for the health benefits of a Raw Food Diet. A diet based on raw food can reverse diabetes, arthritis (I personally have experienced this. I went off all of my arthritis meds after only a few weeks), heart disease, cancer (that is how I became involved with the Raw Food Diet when my sister was diagnosed with Lymphoma), eliminates migraines, the list goes on and on.

So join us and learn how to make the transition from SAD (Standard American Diet) to a healthy Raw Food Diet. You will be happy you did!
