4/2/2014 - Update - Quit the gym - I'm convinced I can exercise at home or wherever I may be. I've also taken a break from counting calories and I'm going low-carb instead. I don't eat unless I'm hungry and when I do I only eat until I start to feel a bit full and then I stop.

It seems to be working because I've lost another two sizes of clothes from size 20 to size 16! Now to get my butt in gear to do more exercise. It's been really crazy at work lately and I've been going ...

It's been really crazy at work lately and I've been going in early and working late, but somehow I'll figure out a way to squeeze at least 30 mins a day in. It's beyond amazing to be in onederland again. If I can do it so can you!

11/6/2013 - Update - still going to the gym. I've only lost 10 pounds over the past 5 months, but it was during the time my son left home to go off to college and also the most stressful time of the year at my job, so I'm happy that I lost weight instead of gaining it.

Now it's time to get serious though. I realize that to meet my goals I have to focus not only on exercise, but diet is so important too. Portion sizes, healthier and healthier choices and much too much protein are my focus now.

I also started trying to eat most of my carbs before my evening meal and not afterwards like I used to do snacking on chips, crackers and ice cream in front of the TV.

That means doing something with my hands like writing, playing video games, reading, sewing, playing guitar (I'm just learning) or even knitting, to keep from doing something that is snacking friendly like vegging out on the couch.

5/31/2013 - I joined a gym this week. I finally got up the nerve to ask my brother's girlfriend to help me. (She's a yoga instructor/personal trainer.)

I'm eating healthier now, but I sit in front of a computer all day then at night I write and my hobbies are playing video games or reading, (more sitting)!

I'm excited to be on this journey. I'm going to enjoy every step of the way. Feel free to add me. I'll add you back. I'm no expert, but I'm an excellent listener.

“I believe life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life's
greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending
commitment to act until they achieve. This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret.”
-Anthony Robbins

“In terms of days and moments lived, you’ll never again be as young as you are right now, so spend this day, the youth of your future, in a way that deflects regret. Invest in yourself. Have some fun. Do something important. Love somebody extra.
In one sense, you’re just a kid, but a kid with enough years on her to know that every day is priceless."

There was once a great czar in Russia named Rudolph the Red. He stood looking out the windows of is palace one day while his wife, the Czarina Katerina, sat nearby knitting. He turned to her and said, "Look my dear, it has begun to rain!" Without even looking up from her knitting she replied, "It's too cold to rain. It must be sleeting." The Czar shook his head and said, "I am the Czar of all the Russias, and Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear!"

"The common conception is that motivation leads to action, but the reverse is true....action precedes motivation. You have to "prime the pump" and get the juice flowing, which motivates you to work on your goals. Getting momentum going is the most difficult part of the job, and often taking the first step is enough to prompt you to make the best of your day."
-Robert McKain

"The first step to living the life you want is leaving the life you don't want.
Taking the first step forward is always the hardest.
But then each step forward gets easier and easier.
Each step forward gets you closer and closer until eventually, what had once been invisible starts to be visible.
And what had once felt impossible starts to feel possible."

I made myself a snowball,
As perfect as could be,
I thought I'd keep it as a pet,
And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas,
And a pillow for its head,
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed!
