Sunset on Lake Superior
It has been five years that I stopped smoking, and decided to work on my excess weight.
I have been very successful with the no smoking part, but not so much with the losing weight... I keep losing, then gaining back. And the cycle starts again.
It is time now to re-evaluate what I am doing wrong. I think I stay on a diet that is too restrictive, and when I allow myself a little "break", this turns into several months of over eating.
Raising a handicapped son all by my myself is stressful, but I tend to use this as an excuse to over eat.
So, let's pick up the momentum and see what we can do to get back on track, shall we?
Lose weight s-l-o-w-l-y while continuing to stay smoke-free (N.O.P.E = Not One Puff Ever).
-10 pounds: new workout shoes and socks on 5/16/15
-20 pounds: new book (an essay in French) on 7/25/15
-30 pounds: Christmas music CD on 12/5/15
- Eat balanced meals, not too restrictive calorie-wise.
- Increase my vegetable and fruit consumption.
- Exercise every day, even if this is only 10 minutes a day. I need to keep moving because of arthritis that is getting worse when I am inactive.
I am originally from France, but now live in Virginia. We go every year on vacation on Lake Superior (in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) and we love it there!
I recently joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it has brought wonderful changes in my life.
I love to read (theology and history books) and I listen to classical music (J.S. Bach is my favorite composer).
Secrets of Success
| Pounds lost: 19.8
My exercises are on paper, but I don't know how I can let you see them. Maybe I can scan them later (after I locate them), and upload them to my pictures, and you can copy them from there. They were from physical therapy, and was the ONLY thing that worked -- along with Ibuprofen.
You can start with just some commonly known moves:
On all fours, straighten one leg straight back and lift and lower 10 times each side.
Depending on where your pain is, you want to bend in that direction. If it's across your back, standing, plant your feet, hands on your hips, thighs taut, back straight, and just lean back about 5 times. If the pain is on the side, stand next to a wall put the opposite hand flat on the wall, hand on the hip of the hurting side, and lean away from the wall into the hurting side.
Those helped me a lot. And I'll look for the others.

Well, another weekend has come and gone. Seems like they fly by at twice the speed of the rest of the week.
Thanks so much for putting up with my warped sense of humor. But even more, thank you for returning week after week in spite of it all, and responding. You comments score phenomenally high on the kind-o-meter. Seriously, I checked! I’ll keep ‘em coming, as long as you keep coming. How's that for a deal?
