Feisty Fifty Something....Fit for Life!

June 30, 2012 put a stop to my race season early! I had a cycling accident with the road. At about 18 mph, on a time trial bike, with a group of other cyclists, hit an unexpected patch of gravel washed up from the previous night's storms. My skinny tires immediately slipped on the gravel and at that speed, I crashed on my side HARD. Broke my left pelvic ring top and bottom. On crutches for six weeks and race season out the window. My skinny tires immediately slipped on the gravel and at that speed, I crashed on my side HARD. Broke my left pelvic ring top and bottom. On crutches for six weeks and race season out the window. I could not run again until Jan. 2013 and when I did, it became painful. Had some unique physical therapy from a P.T. who specialized in pelvic disorders and she pieced me back beautifully! Still don't have the strength and speed I had (though I never was fast!), but I'm running pain free and HAPPY!

Completed one sprint triathlon this year so far (slow...but finished). Another one in August and a half marathon in November. I will be running the half marathon doing the run, walk, run, Jeff Galloway method.

On a gluten free diet and seeing if this makes my stubborn weight loss journey any better. So far, so good. Chose this because of success from several friends and neighbors. After reading Wheat Belly, the science of it all made sense. So far....lost 7 lbs in three weeks (last week, while on vacation!).

Thanks for sharing your training schedule. It gives me a lot of ideas. I need to figure out maintenance after June Race but I do have a September Half Marathon... Wishing you the Best!

A friend shared this with me. The link for Jeff Galloway HM training. I can usually run 3 days a week and sometimes 4th day meet SIS for a walk. The 4 day HM Training really works great for me.
