Only 9 years ago I could barely walk and after I got down to about 240 from 280 I was able to walk so much better; however, my knees were just about worn out and about 5 years ago I had a left knee replacement. .Recovery on my second knee replacement has been slow, especially since I had a quad tear 6 weeks after surgery while in physical therapy. I am still struggling with going up and down stairs and lately fell and was not able to get up by myself which is a goal I have (need to do more of those exercises for the muscles around the knees). NOTE: I FINALLY FIGURED OUT A WAY TO GET OFF THE FLOOR BY MYSELF..AND THINK IT IS RELATED TO MY HANDS BEING STRONGER SINCE I HAVE RECOVERED FROM CARPAL TUNNEL AND TRIGGER THUMB SUGERY ON BOTH HANDS WHICH WERE DONE AFTER MY 2ND KNEE REPLACEMENT....VERY HAPPY ABOUT THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT. I also need to lose the weight I gained since knee replacement and then more to help my knee replacements last longer.
Anyone interested in making homemade yogurt without running out to buy special equipment? This works and as I recall the place I found it said it was "foolproof" which really appealed to me 40 years ago.

Hippie Yogurt from The Last Whole Earth Catalog:
Yes, you can make it at home and you don't need any thermometers or special equipment, either. This is a recipe that really works; it was printed in The Last Whole Earth Catalog in 1971.

3 cups of instant powdered milk
1/2 tsp. unflavored gelatin
1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
1 large can Pet Evaporated Milk
3 tablespoons yogurt (plain, unflavored)

1. Preheat the oven to about 275o F (between 250o and 300o). Soften the gelatin in measuring cup in a bit of water, then add enough boiling water to make one cup. If you want to add sugar, put it in the cup now. Let the mixture cool.

2. Mix the instant powered milk with three cups of water and stir well.

3. In a large glass or pottery ovenproof bowl, mix the evaporated milk with two cups of tepid water. Add the diluted instant powdered milk, the gelatin mixture and the yogurt. Stir thoroughly.

4. Cover the bowl, put it in the oven and turn the oven off. Leave it overnight or about 10 hours. Then, look in the bowl -- it's yogurt! Yield: two quarts.

P.S. I love yogurt and ice cream but I was found to be sensitive to milk on blood testing. I have been eating sorbet but most of the store bought stuff is full of sugar.

Instead of ice cream I have been making homemade smoothies with lots of ice, fresh fruit , stevia and almond milk. I have yet to make it spoonable but it still satisfies my "cold tooth."

My Goals:
My ideal weight goal is the same as it was 5 years ago, 150 pounds.

I know I can do it.

My Program:
Have to lose weight to make my knee replacements last longer.

Starting weight 250 on 2/19/2011.

New starting weight 226.9 on 2/16/2013.

Goal is to lose 5 lb per month for 12 months.

To be 190 by Sept 21, 2013.

My exercise goal is to do the recumbent bike 15 minutes each morning and eventually each evening, too. I will go tothe gym and swim 30 minutes and do 15 minutes of leg exercises on the machine 4-5 times per week. I also need to do neck and knee exercises an additional 15 minutes per day as my quads need strengthening.
This is only 5 lb per month...I know I can do it!

Personal Information:

Other Information:
I love to laugh and my favorite movies are comedies.
I like to play the piano and hope to increase that as the strength in my hands returns. Need to keep doing those hand exercises.

I am working on hand exercises to improve my strength as they are still weak following the thumb joint replacement surgeries 5-1/2 years and 4 years ago.

Spoiler alert: broke a bone in my wrist on May 2, 2013. S am in a cast on right hand &, of course, I am right handed Trying to learn to type with left hand only.

In Gemini the Sun is active, restless and changeable. Gemini is most often the baby in the family and remains young her whole life long. She is born to a father who is well respected in the community. Gemini is not naturally a "fat" sign as she is to active with mental energy to spend. Gemini can have health issues with her nerves, accidents to shoulders, hands and collar bone and her lungs. You like plenty of variety in your everyday activities, in your friends, and even in your diet. Your interests are many and diverse--almost anything will attract your attention if only for a brief time. Truly, this is the sign of the jack-of-all-trades. As the story goes, you may find that unless you can develop your powers of perseverance, you may be the master of none. Your varied interests can result in a tendency for you to spread yourself too thin, sometimes failing to follow through on projects you've begun.
Being very curious, you want to know and experience as much as you can. Gemini is the sign of duality. You find it difficult to limit yourself to one job, to one relationship, or one hobby, as you constantly seek variety and mental adventure. You scatter your energies because you don't want to miss anything. You are a lifelong student, never tiring of learning new subjects. You collect facts and tidbits of data, but you may not always have the big picture.
To the Gemini person, communication is of utmost importance. You flourish on ideas, with a mind that is ever so quick and curious. You are a person who enjoys talking and writing. All sorts of communication ideas appeal to nature. You are aware of all that is going on around you, and you want to understand and participate in it all. You are hard to pin down, and even harder to beat in a debate. Your abilities of combining quick comprehension , and the communication of this comprehension to others, are the hallmarks of your sign. You can talk yourself into and out of situations with ease. Often Mercury people (Gemini's ruling planet is Mercury) take mischievous delight in disconcerting slower minds with their fast paced mental antics. You like to be around people, and you never do well working alone or on any routine type job.
Extremely friendly, you enjoy companionship, and really thrive on it. Just as you don't like to be without activity, you don't like to be alone. You are likely to have a very wide circle of friends with whom you enjoy many activities--movies, games, conversation, and such. You are naturally outgoing and possess a sparkling wit. You are apt to become quickly bored with conservative types that can't make a decision or agree with your need to impose change. Not being very introspective or reflective, often you don't understand your motivations or the motivations of others. So in many ways, relationships can be shallow and superficial. Your restless mercurial nature requires constant excitement and change, or you'll becomes very dispirited and morose. -
