Only 7 years ago I could barely walk and after I got down to about 240 from 280 I was able to walk so much better; however, my knees were just about worn out anda few years ago I had a left knee replacement. .Recovery on my second knee replacement has been slow, especially since I had a quad tear 6 weeks after surgery while in physical therapy. I am still struggling with going up and down stairs and lately fell and was not able to get up by myself which is a goal I have (need to do more of those exercises for the muscles around the knees). NOTE: I FINALLY FIGURED OUT A WAY TO GET OFF THE FLOOR BY MYSELF..AND THINK IT IS RELATED TO MY HANDS BEING STRONGER SINCE I HAVE RECOVERED FROM CARPAL TUNNEL AND TRIGGER THUMB SUGERY ON BOTH HANDS WHICH WERE DONE AFTER MY 2ND KNEE REPLACEMENT....VERY HAPPY ABOUT THIS ACCOMPLISHMENT. I also need to lose the weight I gained since knee replacement and then more to help my knee replacements last longer.

Anyone interested in making homemade yogurt without running out to buy special equipment? This works and as I recall the place I found it said it was "foolproof" which really appealed to me 40 years ago.

Hippie Yogurt from The Last Whole Earth Catalog:
Yes, you can make it at home and you don't need any thermometers or special equipment, either. This is a recipe that really works; it was printed in The Last Whole Earth Catalog in 1971.

3 cups of instant powdered milk
1/2 tsp. unflavored gelatin
1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
1 large can Pet Evaporated Milk
3 tablespoons yogurt (plain, unflavored)
Water

1. Preheat the oven to about 275o F (between 250o and 300o). Soften the gelatin in measuring cup in a bit of water, then add enough boiling water to make one cup. If you want to add sugar, put it in the cup now. Let the mixture cool.

2. Mix the instant powered milk with three cups of water and stir well.

3. In a large glass or pottery ovenproof bowl, mix the evaporated milk with two cups of tepid water. Add the diluted instant powdered milk, the gelatin mixture and the yogurt. Stir thoroughly.

4. Cover the bowl, put it in the oven and turn the oven off. Leave it overnight or about 10 hours. Then, look in the bowl -- it's yogurt! Yield: two quarts.

P.S. I love yogurt and ice cream but I was found to be sensitive to milk on blood testing. I have been eating sorbet but most of the store bought stuff is full of sugar.

My Goals:
My ideal weight goal is the same as it was 5 years ago, 150 pounds.

I know I can do it.

My Program:
Have to lose weight to make my knee replacements last longer.

New reason to lose weight, my daughter is getting married in Sept 2013 so I want to look my best.

Goals:
Starting weight 250 on 2/19/2011.

New starting weight 226.9 on 2/16/2013.

Goal is to lose 5 lb per month for 12 months.

To be 190 by Sept 21, 2013.

My exercise goal is to do the recumbent bike 15 minutes each morning and eventually each evening, too. I will go tothe gym and swim 30 minutes and do 15 minutes of leg exercises on the machine 4-5 times per week. I also need to do neck and knee exercises an additional 15 minutes per day as my quads need strengthening.
This is only 5 lb per month...I know I can do it!

Other Information:
I love to laugh and my favorite movies are comedies.
I like to play the piano and hope to increase that as the strength in my hands returns. Need to keep doing those hand exercises.

I am working on hand exercises to improve my strength as they are still weak following the thumb joint replacement surgeries 5-1/2 years and 4 years ago.

Thank you for stopping by my blog this morning. I love listing my thank you's each morning, gives me a great start of positiveness for the day. I'm looking at a complete knee replacement, will find on the 12th when it will be scheduled for. I'm looking forward to not having to wear a brace anymore and having even more mobility.

Have a great Friday,
Hugs,
Wanda
