Starting Again!

It's been 2.5 years on SparkPeople for me, and while I have maintained a 30 lb loss for a year now, I have allowed some bad habits to creep back into my life. So I've decided to smarten up - again - and recommit to this whole weight-loss-healthy-diet thing. Again.

It's been 2.5 years on SparkPeople for me, and while I have maintained a 30 lb loss for a year now, I have allowed some bad habits to creep back into my life. So I've decided to smarten up - again - and recommit to this whole weight-loss-healthy-diet thing. Again.

Hi! I am a 42 year old career woman, wife, and mother who joined SparkPeople in September of 2009 with a goal of losing 30 pounds in five months. I almost did it, too. At the five month mark I was down 22 pounds and pretty happy with myself. I spent the following 10 months not really working the program and hovering around the 25-pound mark, until I decided to get off my considerably-smaller duff and get down to business on January 1st, 2011.

I lost that 10 pounds a year ago, and once again spent 12 months telling myself I was still trying to lose weight, but not really eating like I was trying to lose weight. So I'm going back to what worked for me almost 3 years ago - tracking diligently, no cheating, and being real with myself. My ultimate goal weight is 152 - 40 lbs lost in total - but if I can get to 155 and stay there I'll be pretty happy.

Over the last 4 months I have stopped eating beef, chicken, and fish, and am thinking of taking the next step towards vegetarianism. The adventure continues!

Have to agree, I'm hungry a lot of the time also . . . and it seems to be the price to pay for weight loss maintenance for me (although others say differently). I tell myself (with greater and lesser degrees of success) that "hunger is not an emergency" and "hunger means I'll enjoy my next meal more" and "thin people expect to experience hunger"!!

Thanks for the suggestion... I often have smoothies, but sometimes need something faster than a smoothie! Yes sometimes the 2-3 minutes to assemble the smoothie would mean my kids were late for school.

You are right: that's not me. And if we're gonna talk about unfair . . . it's unfair I was born in Canada (instead of, say, Sierra Leone); and it's unfair I get free health care instead of having to bankrupt myself to pay medical costs; and it's unfair I got a good chance at a decent education without having to incur any debt to do it; and it's unfair I'm 5'9" instead of 4'9" which would REALLY give me a difficult metabolism . . . and it's unfair I can afford to buy all the fresh vegetables and fruits and lean protein that are optimal for weight loss when many cannot . . . . and yeah. Unfair. Entirely in my favour!!

I'm fluey too and slacking off the gym rat routines until this passes . . . not worrying, we KNOW we'll get right back when we can.

And thanks for your comment on my "best dressed" blog: think I need a feather boa and maybe a cigarette holder to go with that one!!
