I am 41 years old, and I live in the Chicagoland area. I have always been about 30 pounds overweight, and I started my weight loss journey in August of 2009...determned to lose that weight before I turned 40 in October of 2010.

I follow the South Beach Diet, which was recommended to me by my doctor since I have high blood pressure.

I started at 201 and in the past year I have made it down roughly 40 pounds!!! My original goal was to lose 30 pounds, but I have found that I really enjoy exercising now and eating healthy and I will probably try and lose another 15 pounds to reach 150. How different my thinking and my lifestyle is from a year ago! I look forward to having toned arms and abs...but the best part is that people cannot believe that I am really going to be 40 this year....I get carded all the time! LOL!! It's such a great feeling....so freeing....to be at this weight....not be nervous about unwanted attention from men.....and to feel comfortable in my own skin....and most importantly...proud of how I look. I am so happy that I made this challenge to myself!

So all of you 30-somethings that would hide from men like I do....here's to nothing! I'm letting go of all my fears......

09/29/2010..update....with less than 30 days til my birthday, I am still 10 pounds from my goal and I need to tone my abs more, but I will be working hard at this until October 27th! I am switching my diet this month and trying the eating clean way of life. It is very challenging, but the rewards are great! Wish me luck....I'll update again in 30 days!!!

11/06/2010 update.....well, I came close to reaching my goal in time for my birthday, but I only have about 7 more pounds to go. I just started a great routine for my abs and with my Holiday Challenge starting this week, I know that by 2011 I will be on my way to being at goal weight and toned! Look out next Summer!!! I am gonna have the cutest little bathing suit!!!! My husband is about 50 pounds overwiehgt, and he just began his own weight loss plan. I inspired him to get into better shape now that we are both over 40 and want to be healthy and have energy to play with our daughter. Hopefully next year we both will be more fit and happier...I'm gonna do what I can to help him along...

04/09/2011 update.....I am not perfect...I have been slacking in my weight loss journey. I am in a very happy place in my life and I have lost someof the focus and motivation to complete my goal. The only thing that keeps me on track is my friend Chris...who is an avid runner and has lost 60 pounds recently. He helps me eat healthy and exercise on a regular basis once again. I am still planning on losing that final 15 pounds by Summer...

11/13/2011 update..... I am going thru a period of change in my life. My husband and I have decided to divorce and I am feeling less anxious these days and have actually found some happiness in my life! Only problem is...when I'm content with where my life is leading me, I tend to eat more often and exercise less. Not a good combo...

So I am re-starting my South Beach Diet and aiming to lose the last 20 pounds that I need to lose to reach my ideal BMI. Chris is still helping me focus on my goal and we will be working out together to reach our personal goals. It's SO nice to have a workout partner and someone to keep you motivated when you just wanna sleep in...LOL!! I have a wedding to attend, and my goal is to be at 160 by then....May 30th, 2012. I have an awesome dress to show off in! Wish me luck!!!
