Atkintuitive / Beck Diet Solution - Forever Hopeful

I have returned to Spark for the support and guidance that it gives. This time around, I am willing to ask for help and to help others if I can. I am incorporating some "Intuitive Eating" practices into my Atkin's diet, which is oddly counter-intuitive to the whole Intuitive Eating philosophy! lol. I like to call it "Atkintuitive Eating". I am incorporating some "Intuitive Eating" practices into my Atkin's diet, which is oddly counter-intuitive to the whole Intuitive Eating philosophy! lol. I like to call it "Atkintuitive Eating". It only means to me that I eat Atkin's phase I acceptable foods when I am at a certain numeric level and only eat enough to satisfy that hunger. I have done this in the past with some immediate results for ketosis. Also, I am reading and getting ready to begin the "Beck Diet Solution for Life" so that I can add some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to the whole thinking process during this endeavor. I use CBT every day while working with clients who are struggling with addiction issues. So, I am hoping that using the CBT skills will also help me to help my clients as well. Teaching a skill that I use regularly vs. one that I do not use will be evident in my interactions with clients. Aside from that, my thinking is usually in need of re-structuring with dieting. I will talk myself out of hard work at all points of weakness. I will blog about it and see how it goes. The main key to the success though, will be the ketosis and breaking free from my chronic addiction to carbs. I believe that I am a carb addict who has been up to her neck in addiction this whole last month of November!

The meditation below is meant for people struggling with addiction to mind-altering chemicals. It applies to food as well for me. What I got from the reading this morning is that I don't have to make a "New Years" resolution with this diet, like I am tempted to do every year. I did it this year also. I was thinking things like," I can start on New Year's day, and I will eat whatever I want today..." I am sure that Dr. Beck would point out the cognitive errors in that type of thinking. I have shared this with my SP diet mentor today as well. The point is, that today is the only day that matters. What I am doing with this day is what I am doing with my life, as the meditation below points out. I also do not have to live this day alone! I have help today!

Today's thought from the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is:

The new is but the old come true; each sunrise sees a new year born.
--Helen Hunt Jackson

We know that a totally new life can begin on any day of a year, at any hour of the day, or at any moment of an hour. That new life began the moment we decided to surrender and admit to powerlessness over a substance or an impulse. It began when we accepted the fact that we needed help and could receive it simply by asking.

Many of us used to choose New Year's Day as a time for making good resolutions and swearing off bad habits. When we failed, we simply shrugged and said, "Maybe I can start tomorrow, next week - or next New Year's Day." We were always going to "turn over a new leaf."

Now, in recovery, we no longer depend on doing it all alone. We know we can stay abstinent only by sharing with fellow members.

Let me remember, each day in recovery is another milestone. I no longer have to use a calendar.

Thanks for your comment on my blog....I know how you feel but as soon as you are ready you should....My diet coach told me that "the BEST way to GET Beck into our heads is to COACH someone else....." so I am afraid of it too but for that reason I will do it too! Think about that a bit...WE CAN BOTH DO THIS! We can ask other Beck-sters too what their opinion is. I love Spark because everyone is SO willing to see us victorious and to HELP!

Have a GREAT Sunday!
