Hi - my name is Shanna and this is my attempt at tracking how I'm 'taking my body back' !

My weakness has always been around 'food'. Nutrition -it really is 80% of the equation. I started out at 245lbs -then lost 75 lbs by kicking my ass in the gym over 3 years and putting a reasonable effort into healthy eating, but I relaxed a little too much and regained 25 lbs over 17 months. In October 2013 I decided to get busy with my promise to myself to figure out my nutrition, signed-up for a fitness and nutrition challenge with a body builder/personal trainer and took off 23 lbs and 21 inches in 77 days - lots and lots of hard work in the gym, preparing my food on Sunday for the upcoming week, not straying from my planned meals & snacks...even on all those eating occasions between Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas!!!!

Flashforward to Jan 1 2015 and I find that I have become distracted. Say hello to 30 lbs I thought were gone forever last year. It's true what they say about being 'a work in progress'. There are no short cuts, no magic pills, no overnight successes, it's simply trying to stay focused on my goals by making smarter choices every single day. Putting one foot in front of the other with intention every single day. It's a setback on the scale, and it's ok -it only measures the gravitational pull on my body -not the kind of person I am, or the things I can accomplish. I'm ok with it, because sometimes, I need to keep making the same mistake over and over again to finally figure out what really works for me. Life happens, yes that tricky thing called life. My plans got altered, I got injured, I got sick, I'm tired, my clothes got tight, I got depressed, I'm unhappy and stressed out at work, my body is fighting back because I'm not giving it the recovery time or nutrition it needs, I'm meeting roadblocks trying to get my foot injury resolved, a bazillion things are coming at me from all directions watering down my resolve, clouding up my minds-eye view of my goals. No matter, I've caught myself. It's game -on once again, figuring out what works for me -without the 2 hour daily gym visit to make up for the nutrition blunders. I need to find balance, need to learn how to relax. Time to close doors that need closing, and dump the things that no longer work for me.

And so it's December 18th and 2015 has come and is almost gone - and I'm at the same point I was in January 2015. It's been a rough year with lots of stress, modifying to nurse the achilles tendon bursitis injury, eating whatever and not really having a plan, blah blah blah.

2016 - I am refocusing, signing up with that amazing trainer that kicked my ass and whipped me into shape a few years ago starting in January. I'm looking forward to 2016. Can't wait to get started. :)

My motto "Stop holding yourself back".

My favorite quotes:

"Do or do not - there is no try." -Yoda

Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: What! You, too? Thought I was the only one. (C.S. Lewis)

"You must do the things you think you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter." -Dr.Seuss

"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm" -Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we fall." -Confucius

"Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at will change."

"When you do nothing, nothing happens.....you have to give yourself the potential to shift."

Personal Information:
I live in Ontario, married - no kids. We have a cat, and in Aug 2014 adopted a one year old rescue dog -a golden retriever/collie/chow mix -she's a doll! . After a 20 year break (LOL)I was instructing Step aerobics classes at the local YMCA but when a foot injury sidelined that, I got my spin/cycle certification and also my Mossa Group Power certification (group power is a 1 hour full body workout with barbells, weights and a step).
I've had my motorcycle license for 12 years now and traded in my 650 Yamaha V-Star for a Harley Softail Deluxe in Nov 2010 -in my first season on this new bike I logged 5000 miles during a trip to Thunder Bay Ontario! In Spring 2015 my husband and I traded both of our bikes in for an Ultra Limited - so it's back to being a passenger for me -haven't decided if I will get another bike of my own yet. ;)

Find inspiration anywhere you can - it's all around you, you just have to be willing to 'see' it!

Smile - it's contagious!
