On my journey I'm taking a compass not a watch: it doesn't matter how long it takes as long as I'm moving in the right direction.

I've had my setbacks, but each time I get out my compass and get back on track. I keep in mind that there is no goal, no target weight when I'll be done, etc. Instead there is just this journey that I'm on to live each day in a healthy manner. And each day that I do that is a victory.

My old intro:
Heaviest weight ever: 308 pounds
Starting SparkPeople weight: 278.5 pounds

I lost 30 pounds before joining SparkPeople and another 40 since. My weight, my blood pressure, my fasting blood glucose, my total cholesterol and LDL have all dropped. I lost so many inches on my waist that I had to buy a leather punch to make new holes in my belts.

I am grateful to my SparkFriends and the Spark Community for their friendship and their support. Thank you all.

5x5 is 5 compound exercises ( bench press, squat, deadlift. Overhead press, barbell row) done for 5 reps. You keep adding weight when you can reliably do 5 reps. If you google strong lifts 5x5 he gives a good explanation. My son is going to graduate next week in exercise physiology and he is a personal trainer. He changed me to doing more varied exercises for 8 reps. But I still do all of the above plus a few more. The deadlift is an incredible exercise that a lot of people don't do. If you do it right it doesn't hurt your back like a lot of people think it might.

I'd be interested in your opinion on the article. I may blog about it. I thought it was interesting that the only one who continued to lose was the one who was never on the show, but was an "at home" contestant.
