Hi, I'm Valerie from Portland, OR. The quick low-down on me is that I'm a mom, a wife, a quilter, and a martial artist. And most recently, I've also become a runner! Quite an interesting combination, don't you think? LOL!

Hi, I'm Valerie from Portland, OR. The quick low-down on me is that I'm a mom, a wife, a quilter, and a martial artist. And most recently, I've also become a runner! Quite an interesting combination, don't you think? LOL!

My journey with SparkPeople has been an amazing one. When I started, I was about 40 pounds heavier than I should have been. Two young children and a lack of understanding of my bad eating habits left me overweight, out of energy, and wondering what had happened to me.

About 4 or 5 years ago, I decided something had to change. That I was doing something wrong. After all, I was taking Taekwondo classes and exercising 3-5 times a week. There was no reason I should still be overweight! Or was there? I finally realized that all the exercise in the world won't help you unless you are also eating right. If calories in is greater than calories out, you're in trouble.

With the help of SparkPeople's nutrition tracker, I began to watch my food intake. What a wake up call this was! It's so easy to underestimate the number of calories in food. Now that I have a better understanding, I'm confident that going forward I can maintain my weight and my health.

No kidding, right? To not do my commute, I'd 'make' $50 / week minimum!!

But MISSOURI unemployment runs 20 weeks. All the previously unemployed people of the last 8-10 years sucked it all up.

I've never claimed and worked, paying taxes, since I was 15yo!

One if those thighs and yeah, I'd have more free time to search, ha!

Today, they called a meeting saying hours were going to be dropped to 33/ week at some point (there's $10 savings of fuel) and time to job hunt but I don't get internet except on my phone--I can still look and plan!

Thanks! I think you're absolutely right cos I'm sort of overly enthusiastic ;p It's probably the response needed to counter balance, ha!

These are not venomous and eat the venomous ones as well as rats and mice, so we love them!

I've had non-venomous AND venomous bites. The venomous ones --obviously-- make the vampire bite holes and you have varying reactions due to their age (babies will kill more likely than adults--natures' way of protecting babies!) and where they bite (as well as if they have issued venom recently).

The non-v ones never hurt much. I've has a grasshopper draw blood where the snakes just kinda pinch!

This bad boy was big enough to possibly break skin only due to his strength. Bobby would've killed him, which is why we exited.

I made it up! I'm EXTREMELY inventive when it comes to being inappropriate. And they said people who swear just don't have a good vocabulary...well, that's sort of true BUT we can still be creative :)

Yeah, I guess when it comes to making money, he wants the best candidate but if you happen to be female, he'll hate you for it. Very strange. Wish he could get over himself. He mentioned (during his going on about how great he is) that he has 2 grown daughters. You'd think that might sway him to being a little more understanding.

I think even worse, from his diatribes, alluded to -- not to mention calling the other owners FRAT boys (and they're a wee bit older than I am), he has MAJOR inferiority complex. So, I guess women belong in the home AND a smart woman in the workplace????? That must REALLY frost his danglies.
