Lately, it occurs to me what a long strange trip its been.
I'm a late-40s, borderline obese, sedentary man with a wife, four sons, and two dogs.
Or I was. I still have the wife, sons, and dogs. My weight has dropped just enough that I'm not officially obese. I'm still working on getting out of the "overweight" category. UPDATE: 8/24/2010 I'm "normal", with a BMI of 24.96.
Mentally, something snapped in March 2010. I just did not want to live the way I was living. I found SparkPeople in April, and I've worked the diet and exercise diligently.
122 days later, I've lost 38 lbs (17% of starting weight), spent 130 hours exercising, and changed my life.
Train for a half marathon, even if I don't run one.
Get %Body Fat from 29 to 14% by May 2011. Possibly unrealistic? At ~22% now. @177lbs, lean body wt would have to be ~152. I 'only' need to add 15 lbs of muscle! ADA guidelines are 15-18%. Gotta think this out.
Weigh 177 lbs by 9/15/2010

Being a sysadmin means a lot of sitting. Maybe someone should come up with a way for sysadmins to power the systems with a bicycle mounted generator. That'd be some good exercise.

Welcome to the Road RUnners SPark Team. I was just checking out your Spark Page from the new member notice and couldn't help but write as our backgrounds seem very similar. I too am a late 40's guy. Until last April I was also leading a very sedentary lifestyle and was on the obeses/overweight borderline.
Obviously I wish you nothing but the best of luck in reaching all your goals.
