Hi! My name is Amy. I'm a 37 yr old single mom of a 19 yr old daughter and a 16 yr old son. I never thought of myself as an "emotional eater" until I started to reflect on the reasons I started packing on the pounds. Hi! My name is Amy. I'm a 37 yr old single mom of a 19 yr old daughter and a 16 yr old son. I never thought of myself as an "emotional eater" until I started to reflect on the reasons I started packing on the pounds. I was always very thin growing up and very active in gymnastics until my daughter was 10. I ended up with a knee injury that required my second knee surgery. I put on 18 lbs from 11/05-4/06. During this time my mother had a heart attack, and a stroke, and fell and broke her foot which required a plate and pins to fix. Things started to look up and I joined weight watchers, & lost 13 lbs, and I thought I could do it on my own, so I quit. Without the support and accountability of weighing in every week, I again packed on the pounds. My heaviest was 155- and at 5"2 it puts a lot of strain on my knees and back. I joined weight watchers again 2/09 and lost 37 lbs. I kept it off until 5/11. We found out my dad had throat/larynx cancer and my world came crashing down. He had his voice box removed in June and started chemo/radiation 5 days a week from August-October. Sitting in hospital waiing rooms for months on end I fed my boredom. Then my daughter left for college in September. I packed on the freshman 15. I'm tired of riding the emotional rollercoaster and making the committment to myself to get healthy.
