I'm Cindy and I live in Pfafftown, North Carolina. I'm very lucky because I married my best friend, Tommy, in 1995. Tommy was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2009. He continued to live and enjoy his life while battling this horrible disease. After almost four years of survival, Tommy passed away from pneumonia and sepsis on July 19, 2013. Our sweet Doberman Thor (and Tommy's best buddy) was also diagnosed with cancer and after a two year battle, he passed away on December 21, 2013. I can take some comfort in knowing those two best friends are together again.
Tommy's diagnosis changed everything in our lives and I almost completely quit exercising. I've paid the price for my lack of exercise by adding back some of the pounds and feeling unhealthy and tired. Now I'm ready to start working on getting my life back and spending more time enjoying the outdoor activities I love.
I'm taking things one day at a time. One of the most important lessons I learned from Tommy was to enjoy each and every day that we have here on this Earth because there is no guarantee for tomorrow. If he was able to be happy and enjoy life while he was fighting cancer, then there is no excuse for me to let some extra weight bring me down. So many of us think about how happy we'll be when we reach our goals, but we need to be happy today, while we're working toward those goals. So I will look for something to enjoy in every day, just as Tommy used to do.
To get back to a healthy weight and make more time for hiking, backpacking and kayaking.
I use my nutrition tracker faithfully and I now understand how much food I used to eat. I never realized how fast those calories add up until I started putting everything into the tracker. I'm also trying to drink more water and eat healthier foods and get some exercise each day. I plan on doing a lot more hiking on weekends.
I love hiking and backpacking, kayaking, camping (really anything outdoors) and photography. I have two sons, two step-sons, four grandchildren and a my sweet Doberman, Thor!
Although I live in North Carolina, I love the southwest better than any place else, especially the slot canyons in Utah. I also love photography and have loaded a lot pictures to my flickr page at the link below.

Thanks for commenting on my friend feed about the power. The weather was cool, especially since it was at night so other than tv and appliances and lights it wasn't bad. I did have candles and flashlights though. Lots of clean up in our whole area going on and lots of damage but no damage to apartments as far as I can tell. Trees, tree branches, fences down though at apartments but no structural damage. Lots of others did have though throughout the metroplex. Power still out today to about 80,000 people. They said that should all be restored by tomorrow morning. They have to cut through a lot of trees and other damage to get to the power lines they and the wind/rain took down. So glad I'm not in that group but I do feel sorry for them. Luckily though no really serious injuries or deaths though. Today's high should be 79 degrees but back up to low 90's by midweek. Low last night got down to mid 40s to 50s thoughout area which was really cool since it hasn't been that low. Usually in upper 60's to low 70's now. Red Cross does have a shelter set up for those that need it At the highest I guess there was about 250,000 without power. I'm from a small rural town where it's not that bad LOL! Take care today. It's beautiful so I'm off to the zoo since I'm not a homeowner and don't have to clean up LOL! I heard a chain saw outside though so I guess they are cutting trees/branches on the apartment complex. The storm hit at the height of rush hour and kids getting out of school Thursday. Rain was so bad for a little bit you couldn't hardly see. So glad I didn't have to be out in it! Take care of your foot and hope it's healing well!
