Welcome to our place! Relax with us by the pool and watch the puppies romp. Come take a walk with me at sunrise and sunset--the sky here goes on forever! No wonder they decorate with pink and blue in Florida--that's the color of the vast cloud mounds in the sky, where the lightning plays at any time of day. You never know what might be going on around here, but good food, friends, characters, physical activity, and my thoughts, goals, and interests of the moment are going to be part of it.

My Goals:
When I first joined SparkPeople 10 years ago, I think, I'd seen my weight creeping up and decided that I needed to be more aware of what I was eating and how much I was exercising.

Well, it just happened again!

Having a weekly restaurant news column in the local paper is NOT a great method of self-control.

Note to self: It's never okay to just eat and drink whatever you damn please!

My Program:
Make sure to eat at least SOME breakfast every day, for a kick-start!

Walk a total of 5 miles, 10,000 steps, a day.

Eat only when hungry and stop when full. (This is NOT easy, by the way.)

Do daily pilates-type exercises to keep my hips and back limber.

Upper-body weight training every other day.

Personal Information:
68, with an emotional age of about 36

Went from 172 in February 2005 to a low of 111 several summers ago (much too low for me)

Now aiming to lose at least 10 pounds, mainly to fit into more of my clothes and have a flatter tummy.

This, too, isn't always easy, because of the abovementioned newspaper gig and Bill's great cooking.

Other Information:
My passions lately are writing and getting to be expert in the local restaurant scene. Retirement is proving far busier than full-time employment!

Ha Ha, Sue, the question is do I have anything worth blogging about! Nice to be able to put two thoughts together once in a just need to find the time to actually remember them and write them down. emoticon

Sue, once I figured out what exactly I was looking for, the research part was easy. It was then convincing myself that this was what I needed to do for me that took the time.
Back when we first got Jude we had to hire a trainer to help us with some of his issues. She at the time told me that she had put her hashi''s in remission through diet, but didn't get real specific. Once I realized that my doctor was not going to help me, that my insurance carrier was not my friend, and that conventional medicine was not the least bit interested in helping me with my symptoms or identifying the root cause or treatment of the disease itself, I had to do some digging.
It took finding three different websites to help put the pieces together.Hypothyroid Mom, which has an extensive listing of articles covering everything from nutrition to fertility, Paleomom, by a microbiologist with 3 autoimmune conditions of her own, and phoenix helix, by a woman with rhuematoid arthritis that kept it under control through diet. I think too much damage has been done to my thyroid to ever be cured, but if I can keep the symptoms maneagable through diet it's worth it.
I still have a ways to go. I haven't hit a point where I dare do too many food introductions, mostly because I tend to struggle with compliancy issues every few weeks (part of that angry list) The list of things to avoid is all processed food/chemicals, all grains, legumes, dairy and nightshades, seed based spices, nuts.....from my reactions when I'm not compliant, gluten and dairy are definitely out and I'm not so sure that nightshades are my friend, either. But if I could eat a handfull of nuts from time to time, maybe an egg, or put green beans on my plate as a side I'd be a happy woman.

Not Meuniere's. I had one episode of what they called postural vertigo. They tested me for it by tilting my head until I felt the spins. Then they gave me medication for it--I think a motion sickness med, which worked almost at once.

  • v _LINDA
Its positional vertigo -they have to physically get those crystals back in place, no other way to do that. Do you have Meniere's then?
