I am a 53 year old woman currently living in Yorkville, IL. I've struggled with weight all my life and have successfully lost and gained many, many pounds over the years. I've never maintained a healthy weight for any long period of time. I'm so tired of feeling uncomfortable in my body. I'm tired of having 5 sizes of cloths in my closet, tired of not meeting up with old friends because they've never seen me this heavy...most importantly, I am tired of my excessive weight holding be back from my being my true self. I want and deserve better for myself.

Some serious health issues over the last few years have given me a lot of time to reflect upon the importance of good health, my mortality and my contribution to this life/this planet. I've recently tried to focus and define the things I feel are truly important. I am trying to live more consciously. It is an enlightening journey that I think many women experience at this age. Many things have motivated me to commit myself to a healthier lifestyle. Most importantly, this is a time of change and new opportunity for my husband and I both and I am so excited about what is ahead. I want to be healthy - to be the best I can be. I fear that if I don't get a handle on things soon, I will simply resign myself to this body forever. That is simply unacceptable. I love the outdoors and dream of taking long hikes, bicycling, learning to sail and kayak, and just being the active person I once was. We plan to relocate to our home in Venice, FL in the next year and I want to be able to meet new friends and enjoy the warmth of the sun, the beach and the ocean without being self conscious. It's time - my time - yes!

My Goals:
-A healthy 1 to 2 lb. weight loss per week.
-Incorporating exercise in my daily routine.

I am trying to make choices that follow the weight watchers core plan, as well as take some pointers from Dr. Oz's book "YOU on a Diet".

Personal Information:
I live in Yorkville, IL with my husband, our sweet old golden retriever and 3 cats.

Other Information:
I have a strong connectedness with nature and the great outdoors. I love to garden and have a strong interest in the arts.

    Hi Susan, I see we are "neighbors". Would love to meet in person one of these days. Right now, living day to day and dealing with recent diagnosis of Invasive ductal carcinoma. Sorry, but having hard time seeing the black type through the purple background.

    Hi Susan, thank you for your nice comment on my page. I have to tell you that in the beginning exercise was merely a means to an end. But, I started slow and got totally caught up in seeing how far, etc. For the first 8 months all I did was walk...started slowly/short distances, and just kept challenging exercise truly is a way of life, the gym is a place where I don't see my body's flaws, just how strong and able I took time to get there though...good luck to you and give exercise a chance.
