My Journey

I am on a journey to improve my health by losing weight and improving my fitness level. My goal is to get off my diabetes and cholestrol medications and possibly my blood pressure medications. I've lost 60 pounds since November 2009 and feel great about myself!!! I want to lose about 50 more pounds and then I'll reevaluate and see what I want to do!

Susan - Thank you so much; you don't know how much your words helped me this morning! I hate that you're having problems with your sister, but like you, I have realized that it's better to be without certain people in your life vs. having them in your life and being miserable because they want YOU to be miserable with them.

My sister is the "golden child" in our family so she is loyal to my mother and will even attack me so my mother doesn't have to. No more of that kind of drama for me; life is too short and I'm too old for that, LOL.

Thanks for the book suggestion; I'll have to look for it at my library. emoticon

Id like to invite you to join in my challenge to lose 10 pound in August. The goal is 10 pounds but really u do what u can. The decision to how much is ultimately up to you. i know some of us might be saying 10 pounds? WOW, that is too much! cant do it! But i am here to tell u i did it for 7 months straight, (lost 75 pounds) b4 i got sick with cancer and had dropped out for a yr and a half. if u stay within ur calories that are alotted and if u track everything that passes ur lips u can do it too. I was never one that stayed on a diet before, for more than 3 weeks at a time, and then I'd get discouraged and dropped off. i lost 75 pounds just doing calorie counting and tracking to make sure i never went over. i barely exercised ...i am handicapped and i cant do exercises in the conventional way but i flapped my arms while showering, and sitting did leg raises, went up and down my stairs whenever it struck me to do so. i did very minimal stuff. the idea was to keep moving and i did that. so i know with disipline, encouragement and motivation u can too.. so i invite u to come and join me on my 10 pound challenge! emoticon emoticon

Susan - You have a smart man there! I tell my kids that when I was much younger I tried saving money and I stunk at it compared to how I do now, LOL.

I didn't have the experience or anyone to show me how to save lots of money. My dad used coupons for fast food places and my mother shopped at seasonal sales (when the clothes were marked down for a new season) at department stores, but other than that (and my dad hating us to waste food), I pretty much learned it the hard way! My dad did grow a garden so that saved us money growing up as well, but while they weren't huge wasters of money, they weren't as motivated as me to save money due to them not having a lot of bills since they inherited a house, lots of land, etc. from my grandmother.

I've learned a lot over the years and still am trying to improve my savings strategy and will always try to do that. I feel I can never be an expert at saving money because things change and so your savings strategy has to change with it, so it's a never-ending process.

I feel naked if I don't have my coupons with me when I go to a store now and try to make sure that never happens (unless I'm at a store that won't take them, like Aldi's).

That's so awesome that you have learned so much from your husband, he sounds like he was a great teacher!
