Loving life on the Cape

Hi I am 44 years old and have hypothyroidism and diabetes. I am back on this journey of weight loss and health yet one more time and I am going to make it stick this time!

I am also mom with two children, whom I adore, and a hubby who is amazing. I am trying to focus on better health and fitness, rather than actual weight loss (mostly because I think its going to be slow with being hypo).

Thank you so much for the advice. I appreciate it soooo much. I've been so frustrated and was beginning to feel like I was going crazy or overreacting. I think the worst part of it is having no energy or motivation. All I want to do is sleep even after I have just fun 3 miles at the gym. emoticon
I'm just going to keep on going though because despite all the symptoms I know that what I'm doing is healthy and good for my body and mind. emoticon emoticon

Well hello! :-) For me the Garmin was something I wanted because I could get an accurate GPS measurement, along with instant pacing. The added benefit was that I could program it with these various workouts and it beeps and tells me when to change it up; so in some ways it is similar to the podcast for C25K where it tells you when to run, when to walk, etc. I can pretty much program in any workout I want and it will keep me on track. Another added benefit is I can download my data onto my computer and it will show my route, my pace and heart rate zones, my lap times, my splits and so much more. So over time I can see and compare to earlier runs on the same route and see if I'm improving.

But primarily I wanted the GPS for accurate measurements and pacing. I do have to say that the Fitness Maps are pretty darn accurate so that's a good thing! But when I am out on my run I would have to basically pre-map my route and know where 1 mile is to figure out what pace I was running. I wanted to instantly know my pace so I could better train, especially now that I've been running for a year and want to add in speed training.

Hope that answers some of the questions of why and what! :-)
