Hi, I'm Surplus.

For most people, the new year starts in January. Mine always seems to start in the fall. All of my work projects start up right about now. It's always a good time for reflection.

I'm 51. As a lot of women my age can attest, lots of little things tend to go wrong. I've discovered that sitting at my desk and computer for literally 14 hours a day can seriously cause some baffling pain. I've also discovered what an amazing job a good physical therapist can do. Kudos to the profession!

I've also been humbled by the 'sure, I can do that' mentality seems to result in one hard workout followed by weeks of strained tendons followed by other pains.

So, I'm learning my way back around my body. At 51, things recover slower than I'm used to. It's probably time commit to steady progression rather than gung-ho and relax methodology.

I'm tracking my daily food intake and activity on MyFitnessPal just because the Ipad app is much better than SparkPeople's. I've realized that I haven't been enjoying the connections here at Spark, so I want to get active on the Communities again.

Fresh Start. It's well traveled ground. Gain, lose, gain, lose.
Perhaps I've gotten too comfortable with the process.
Like a comfy pair of sweat pants.

Just turned 50. Had a great birthday. My husband treated me like a queen and took me to Hawaii! We swam, snorkeled, surfer (yes surfed!!) snorkled some more, hiked across lava, over black sand beaches, used our four wheel drive rental offroad, snorkeled more, snorkeled at night to see giant manta rays, rode in a submarine and generally had a wonderful time.

But the birthday is over and now my hubby is approaching his 50th birthday. He's a tiny bit younger than me.

He asked for his birthday help in achieving his fitness goals. He wants that last summer of young, so to speak. He may turn 50, but he's hoping to feel young again.

How can I refuse? I'm not going to refuse.

So we have a fresh start. I'm smiling at the thought.

See ya around.
