Big results through smaller goals

I am the wife of wonderful husband of 18 years and the mom to two great kids, an 18 year old son and a 11 year old daughter. I live in the Fox Valley in Wisconsin.

I started my weight loss journey back in high school. Lots of ups and downs. In October 2007 I got back on the scale and saw my all time high of 290 pounds. As I stated above I have always been up then down on the yo-yo dieting cycle with no real results ever seen. I always said it was ok because I had at that point ...

I always said it was ok because I had at that point no high blood pressure, diabetes or any other adverse health effects so I could still rationalize my high weight because otherwise I was healthy.

That thought started to change when I went to the doctor for a physical and the nurse told me that my blood pressure was elevated. Now I was faced with the reality that in the back of my mind I always knew--my weight was and is affecting my health.

I decided I need to try to do something to change this. I had been to weight watchers in the past but didn't really follow the program the way it was written and I wanted something more basic than even that. I don't even remember where I was surfing on the net when I came across the web address for Sparkpeople but I did and I came and I knew that I found the link between the skills I already had and the goals I had. I have been sparking since. I started sparking in 2007. Though my weight hasn't reached the place I am striving for. Since being on Sparkpeople I have been working on what eats me. Which is helping me on my weight loss journey. The time has come to move to the next step and really focus on weight loss.

01-13-2010 I went back to the doctor for my yearly physical. I was fearing this one. My blood pressure is now to the point that I need to fix it. I am now on blood pressure meds and am dealing with the complications of the extra weight in other areas of my health.

I have spent the last year getting healthy emotionally. I now have a solid positive mind set to tackle this hurdle. I have gotten much better with the stinky thinking and being my own worst critic. Now I need to put into action getting the shell healthy.

The beginning of the year, 2010, my family eliminated most all HFCS from our diets. I cook for my family at home. We rarely dine in restaurants (by choice.) I feel this is the healthiest way to bring my kids up.

My long term goal is to be 145 pounds and a healthy BMI of 24. I just feel ready now. Since my total weight loss goal is so large I break it down in small goals based on the holidays in the calendar. Follow along on my blog if you are interested in my progress.

My goal is to exercise three times weekly. My doc wants me to get to the point of exercising 45 minutes a day for 6 days a week.

I AM WORTH IT!! I DESERVE GOOD THINGS!!

My weight tracker is tracking my goal to get to 263 pounds, from 293, 10% of my starting weight.

Thanksgiving Day 11-25-2010 I walked my first 2 mile organized event. My goal was to finish. I finished in 42 minutes. (with other people behind me). I DID IT!!

Tina, I am so happy to hear from you and relieved that Paul made it through the ordeal. I knew that there were some major health crises going on in your life but didn't know what and felt that you had more on your plate than you deserved so have been biding time with prayers for you to make it through all this. Anyway, seeing a message from you this morning is like a gift and makes me so joyful since it means you may be ready now to move on and I know you are living with a gratitude for every moment you have with those you love. I wish I were close enough to just give you the biggest bearhug you have ever had!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! "Everything happens for good to those who love the Lord." Another way of saying what will be, will be...we just have to adjust to whatever in ways that work for us and our families. emoticon And YOU did that!
