Hey all! I'm back! These days I am a 54-yr-old mom to 2 fantastic teenage sons, "special auntie" to a wonderful niece (17) and nephew (18), and married to a great guy who's a diehard rugby, hockey and soccer player. Since 2009 I have been up and down about 50 pounds. I am back to Sparkpeople because it's been incredibly helpful to me in the past.
It was DH who lovingly made me snap out of my latest junk-food induced haze and realize that I've gotten myself to a pretty unhealthy state. He loves me no matter what I weigh, but when he told me he was worried about my health...well, that really hit home. It was like I had blinders on and I couldn't see how my life was getting smaller and smaller. Between my poor eating habits and inactivity, I just didn't feel like getting out there and enjoying my life! And trust me, I have a darn nice life! So very grateful.
So: I am back at it, starting over (again!) with all the things I know that work for me. No diets, just making healthy food choices, watching my portions and moving my body more.
Over these last few years, Iï¿½ve had some challenges that have contributed to the weight gain. We fostered our niece and nephew for 10 months in 2011-12 and I gained a lot of weight, because I was caring for everyone but myself. In 2013, I walked my 2nd half-marathon, but that summer I also suffered a severe ankle sprain and tore the meniscus in my knee. My subsequent inactivity and poor diet added on the pounds. Right now Iï¿½m battling plantar fasciitis and still trying to re-hab that bum knee. Otherwise, my health is good and I feel very, very fortunate that I havenï¿½t had any more serious health issuesï¿½especially considering the crap Iï¿½ve been putting into my body!
So glad to be back here on Sparkpeople and Iï¿½m always looking for new Sparkfriendsï¿½so friend me! I'm into hiking, scrapbooking, movies, books and photography...and I am addicted to Pinterest! (Could I BE anymore stereotypical middle-aged mom? Insert teenage eye-roll here.)
I've got some milestones coming up that I am looking forward toï¿½and Iï¿½m motivated to be as healthy and fit as I can be at each of them.
Feb. 26 ï¿½ March 3 ï¿½ To Arizona for college visit to NAU with DS1 and visit friends.
March 30 ï¿½ April 3 : Spring Break ï¿½ College visits with sons and hubby in Colorado.
Early April: DS 2 lacrosse season begins ï¿½ lots of travel and parent booster club activities. Gotta look good on the sidelines!
May 9 ï¿½ Riverbank Run in Missoula, walking the 10k
June 6 ï¿½ DS 1 graduates high school ï¿½ family and festivities!
June 13 ï¿½ Governorï¿½s Cup run in Helena, walking the 10k
July 12 ï¿½ Missoula Marathonï¿½walk the half?
August 1 ï¿½ 8 ï¿½ Family Reunion on Oregon Coast
Late August ï¿½ Take DS 1 to college!

Hi all. I'm a 51-yr-old mom of two fantastic teenage sons, "adopted mom" to a wonderful son (14) and daughter (15), and married to a great guy who's a diehard rugby player. Am very blessed and have a great life. But...I've slowly added the pounds over the years and haven't been as active as I'd like to be. Am ready to let the weight go now and live a healthier, more vibrant life. Would like my outer appearance to match the way I feel inside.
And, as I grow older, I want to be feisty, fit and HEALTHY. I want to be charging up the trails with my hiking buddies when I'm 70!
