Hi I'm Laura. I live in Oakland, Ca with my husband, 11 yr. old daughter, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I also am the proud mother to my 21 yr. old son, but he's on his own now. I work as a hairstylist (for over 25 yrs.) About 8 yrs. ago, I weighed 265 lbs. I was diagnosed with gallstones and had to have surgery, which started my weight loss. I've lost about 60 lbs of it (over the course of 8 years), but I still have another 60 hanging around. I would like to be rid of it by the end of this ...
Hi I'm Laura. I live in Oakland, Ca with my husband, 11 yr. old daughter, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I also am the proud mother to my 21 yr. old son, but he's on his own now. I work as a hairstylist (for over 25 yrs.) About 8 yrs. ago, I weighed 265 lbs. I was diagnosed with gallstones and had to have surgery, which started my weight loss. I've lost about 60 lbs of it (over the course of 8 years), but I still have another 60 hanging around. I would like to be rid of it by the end of this year (08). My hobbies are going to the movies with my daughter, hanging out on the internet, and swimming. Another goal I'd like to accomplish is finishing college. I'd like to change careers...I'm leaning towards a dental hygiene program...I'm used to being active at work, being with people, being on my feet. It seems like this would be a natural career transition for me! I look forward to meeting my weight loss goal with all you S.P'ers!!!!

My Goals:
Lose that extra pesky 60 lbs. that I've been struggling with for a few years now. ONCE AND FOR ALL.
My Program:
1800 calories daily (slow and steady. I've done low cal. diets before and I just feel deprived and wind up blowing it). 1800 calories allows me to have a treat or a glass of white wine! 8 glasses of water daily Exercise 6 x's week, alternating between cardio and strength training. Using S.P loyally

Going back to college at 44! Would love to hear from other mid-career changers out there! How did you manage everything? What kept you motivated?
