Thanks for the comments on my blog. Perhaps I have too many gadgets - but I use the fitbit each day for measuring steps - it has a much longer battery life. I use the garmin for my running only. It has a much shorter battery life - so when I'm not running it's on the charger. I'm a scientist by trade so I like to be able to use a metric to see if I'm doing better or not. The step counter on my iPhone is relatively new and comes along for the ride. The iPhone health app also contains a place to store medicines you are taking, which might come in helpful if you ever become unconscious and get taken to a medical facility. My wife's aunt was very careful about keeping the meds she was taking on a post-it note. She lost consciousness and her husband gave the post-it note to the life flight people - who lost the post-it note. Then they had to establish with her pharmacy what meds she was on before they could give her treatment.
On the fats, I'm just trying to lower my triglycerides by diet so I won't have to take medicines later in life. I eat turkey burgers and boneless skinless chicken breasts so I'm still getting plenty of fat in my diet. I also use salad dressings on salads and know that the full calorie dressings help extract the nutrients out of the salads better than the low fat ones. The spark nutrient check shows 30% of your calories need to be fats - so I have plugged my diet in to verify I getting enough fats.
