August 2008-
Hello , I am a 60 year old retired nurse , Mother of 3 sons and grandmother of 6 . I have been married for 43 years and have found that I have kept gaining and gaining over the years . I started out at 375 . I am using a combination of counting both calories and weight watchers points although I have not joined weight watchers . I want to be able to move and play with my Grandchildren the way I did with my own children and enjoy active retirement years with my husband when he retires this year .

August 1 -2009
Well folks it is the first day of August and this last week I just reached a milestone , I have now officially lost 100 pounds since starting Sparks People .Com .
There were times it rolled off and times where I rolled in bed wandering if this day would ever come but to all those who have given me help this last year I want to say Thank You and be patient with me for I still have 150 more to lose .
I am now eating and living like a new person , every couple of weeks I find new things that I am now able to do and new friends I meet along the way
I know I have a lot more work to do and a lot more to look forward to so my journey into tomorrow continues .

Take A Moment To Thank A Veteran

When you see someone in a uniform,
    Someone who serves us all,
    Doing military duty,
    Answering their country’s call,

Take a moment to thank them
    For protecting what you hold dear;
    Tell them you are proud of them;
    Make it very clear.

Just tap them on the shoulder,
    Give a smile, and say,
    "Thanks for what you’re doing
To keep us safe in the USA!"

    We miss you!

    "Somebody cares
    if you're happy today,
    If your heart
    is cheerful and light.
    Somebody cares
    if you're feeling good
    And everything's
    going just right.
    And somebody hopes
    that this message will show,
    in a warm little
    heart-to-heart way,
    You're thought of,
    remembered,
    and happily wished
    An especially wonderful day." emoticon

    GRANDPARENTS

    Grandparents bestow upon their grandchildren
The strength and wisdom that time
    And experience have given them.

    Grandchildren bless their Grandparents
With a youthful vitality and innocence
That help them stay young at heart forever.

Together they create a chain of love
Linking the past with the future.
    The chain may lengthen,
    But it will never part...

    It Got Up and Went

How do I know my youth is all spent?
My get-up-and-go has got up and went.
My joints are still and filled with pain.
The pills that I take give me no gain.
I rub in the ointment like fury I do.
Each pain when it leaves comes back with two.
But in spite of it all I am able to grin
When I think of the places my get-up has been.
Old age is GOLDEN I have heard it said,
But sometimes I wonder as I get into bed-
My "ears" on the dresser, my "teeth" in a cup,
My "eyes" on the table until I wake up.
Ere sleep comes each night I say to myself,
"Is there anything else I should lay on the shelf?"
Yet I am happy to know as I close the door,
My friends are the same as in days of yore.
Since I have retired form life's competition
Each day is filled with complete repetition.
I get up every morning and dust off my wits
Go pick up the paper and read the "o-bits."
    If my name isn't there I know I'm not dead;
I get a good breakfast and go back to bed.
The reason I know my youth is all spent-
My get-up-and-go has got up and went.
