Losing Weight With WLS
my journey is a long one and deviates from the normal gastric bypass story. i am almost 3 years out (today is 3/18/2010, i had surgery 8/22/2007) & when most people are gaining some weight back at this stage, i'm losing again! i lost 97 lbs, from 267 to 170 the first year post op. then i hovered from 171-174 for over 1.5 years. recently in january 2010, i cut calories a bit and cut out wheat/gluten (due to an intolerance), junk, & alcohol. the weight started to fall off. i hit 100 lbs lost ...
my journey is a long one and deviates from the normal gastric bypass story. i am almost 3 years out (today is 3/18/2010, i had surgery 8/22/2007) & when most people are gaining some weight back at this stage, i'm losing again! i lost 97 lbs, from 267 to 170 the first year post op. then i hovered from 171-174 for over 1.5 years. recently in january 2010, i cut calories a bit and cut out wheat/gluten (due to an intolerance), junk, & alcohol. the weight started to fall off. i hit 100 lbs lost finally! and then i hit normal BMI a week or so ago! i maintained & ate whatever i wanted (what my pouch tolerated) for 1.5 years. i had junk & sweets, some pastas, crackers, etc. but, i'm finding out that i'm wheat or gluten intolerant. since cutting it out, i've become much more energetic, my mood has lifted dramatically, and my weight has dropped! i also drank alcohol a lot the last 2 years and i've quit that since last november. i've always weighed daily and tracked it with excel, as well as tracked my food and nutritional info daily. i've never counted calories (ie. picked a calorie range and stuck to it daily. i see that as dieting and i don't diet and never intend to do it again!). the whole tracking came about because i am a biologist and love data, so that's what i do. i'm glad i did it because i'm looking back now and seeing why i stayed at the same weight for over 1.5. years and seeing that i have a low BMR. since losing this weight and seeing that the plastic surgeon i went to was wrong (he said i only had skin left, no fat to lose- and i've lost almost 20 lbs since january), i have no idea what my goal weight should be. my RNY surgeon said it should be 137. plastic surgeon said i have 15lbs of skin on me. if that's true, i need to stop with the loss right now. what to do, what to do. i'll keep my goal weight at 150 on spark right now for the time being though. ANOTHER UPDATE: today is 12/12/2010 and i weigh 126lbs. i'm in a size 2 and smalls, extra smalls. i've surpassed my own goal of 150 lbs, surgeon's goal of 137 lbs and the last final goal of 134 lbs (weigh as much as i've lost). i'm working on maintaining at 130 lbs. i'm one BMI point from being underweight, which isn't cool since i haven't had plastic surgery yet. to maintain now, i've had to incorporate gluten free pastas and breads into my diet. if i don't eat them, i lose easily. i try to not let myself get down to 125 and it's really hard and time consuming.
