Finding the Determination to Succeed and Be Myself!

Hi, I am a 21 year old, college student, who wants to make a change in my life. All of my life I have been overweight, and before I graduate college, I would like to lose roughly 100 pounds. I started college at 250 lbs and lost 30 during my first year. Unfortunately, I have gained all of that back. Now I would like to lose more weight (down to what is considered healthy for me) and work to keep it off for good.

As of the start of 2013, I have lost the 30 pounds again ...

As of the start of 2013, I have lost the 30 pounds again and am fighting to enter uncharted territory in my adult weight (below 220). I have also signed up to run a half marathon in May.

I'll be at the 15k... I'll probably be the girl crying around mile 7 (since I've never run that far, and I injured my foot last race) but I'll be pushing through.. I'll also be the one with the armband blaring lady gaga songs.

I am still doing the mini and it is going to be brutal. I haven't been running enough at all. I'm about 10 pounds lighter than last time I did it without training when it was super super painful. I've been running more than before that time at least! It's going to be rough, but I'll get through it. I haven't been very good lately at all though. Stupid me, it's so much harder to start back up than to just keep going.

Saw your email, you've been doing pretty well. You'll be fine if you've been running that much. The energy, excitement, other runners, etc. give you a little boost of motivation!
I've taken some beans with me during the run. There are all sorts of kinds...Gatorade, Powerbar, etc etc. I don't do well with eating much before and just push through without eating a whole lot. I HAVE to chew gum when I run, helps my mouth not get so dry and then I've eaten different beans during the race. Take Gatorade at a few stops. It makes a difference and I'd say always take water at the stops, even if you only take a sip or so.

My other big tip is to stay to the inside of the track as much as you can. The first year I did it (when I was in shape and ran the entire thing without training at all), I ran the track way too high and was in pain! The part after the track is definitely the toughest stretch...about 9-till you start to realize you are near the end!

I hope the weather is nice. The first year I did it was great (pretty cool but I like it that way) and the second was cold and rainy. I didn't do it last year but some family still did and my bf said it was too hot.

Thank you for your comment on my blog. I think it is so cool you were there near me and we didn't know. You probably saw me or better yet heard me. My husband was running with me. I had music blaring from my cell phone on my arm. If you were in a few minutes on me then we probably played the passing game. I think it is encouraging that I wasn't the only one out there!

Hi. Sorry I just got your message. I am training for the Indy half. I live in Bloomington, so I wasn't planning on doing any of the official training runs as I don't want to drive that far. I am trying to run four days a week down here to prepare though. Time seems to be flying and I am getting nervous!
