Tired of being fat

I am a 40 year old woman, living in Goldsboro, NC who usually looks out for others before looking out for myself. I am starting to change things around to make time for myself. I have made the decision to not allow the guilt of other's or myself to put my needs and wants aside.

I am a 40 year old woman, living in Goldsboro, NC who usually looks out for others before looking out for myself. I am starting to change things around to make time for myself. I have made the decision to not allow the guilt of other's or myself to put my needs and wants aside.

All of my life I have been heavy and for the most part comfortable to be heavy as it was a way to keep others at a distance and prevent being my feelings to be hurt. But after many years I have learned I am hurting myself more than others ever could by keeping myself hidden in a fat body. In recent years, I have had an increase in health problems that are directly related to my weight. No, I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes, but I do have joint problems, back issues, and recently bone issues. In the last 6 months I have broken 3 fingers (2 in multiple places) and my back has no disks left with the vertebrae now deteriorating at a faster pace due to my high weight.

Additionally, I have sat on the sidelines of life for way too long. Always watching, but never really being apart of life. I am tired of this life and I want better. My youngest is 10 years old and will be gone from home in a very short time.

IF I don't improve me now, what will life be like once she has left home? This question haunts me more and more every day as I see her becoming more independent and involved with her friends.

My Goals:
I want to reach 165 lbs by Oct 2010. I have battled weight problems all my life and I have reached a point in my life that I am fed up with the crash diets, weights loses and gains, and feeling uncomfortable all the time.

My Program:
I am walking at least 1 mile every day and riding my bike at least 1 mile 3 times a week.

I have also put together a daily menu with the help of this site. I am working on increasing my self esteem and self confidence by printing out different things on this site that give me inspiration to give to myself as often as I give to others by taking time for me.

Personal Information:
I am from Lansing, Michigan, but move down to Jacksonville, NC about ten yrs ago and then to Goldsboro, North Carolina almost 2 years ago.

Other Information:
I love to read just about anything, but my favorites are thrillers and historical romances. I enjoy swimming, gardening, camping, and cook outs. I have three wonderful kids, boy 21yrs, boy 16 yrs, and girl 10yrs.
