Now, a 47 year old single woman, with 2 cats and 4 chickens trying to get back into life before it's "too late!" OK, I've had the sleeve surgery over 2 years ago but haven't lost one pound. Let me have it pro-surgery folks, but for me, something else was missing. That was me. My determination, my want because obviously I need to lose the extra weight. Surgery is not for everyone and just because you have it doesn't mean it will work for you. You have to work it, and for me, working it will mean going deeper to find out and correct the reasons why I am hoarding my pounds. IT won't be easy, but it can be done...successfully. Using the old charts I've used before, using updated technology (BodyMedia Core) and good old fashioned community (SparkPeople) to make this journey with. Surgery alone won't do it. Being alone won't do it - at least not for me.

Howdy All! My name is Vickie and I am new to this team. This is my second day using the BodyMedia Core and I already broke my large armband's holder trying to upload my stats for yesterday. How I miss the old docking/upload station of the BodyBugg but how I LOVE the smaller and lighter Body-Media unit! I am a 47 year old woman who needs to get on with the second half of her life. I need to lose about 85 lbs but for vanity's sake would love to shift 100 off, so anywhere in between. I am going to use the low carb variants...somewhere about 25-35 grams of slow carbs with plenty of protein, healthier fats and fiber. I am going to desperately try NOT to rely on multiple daily protein shakes because I need to get into the habit of eating real - everyday food. I am in culinary school at a junior college, but off for this semester to take other life classes, including a life health class. The instructor in that class says I should weigh about 117 lbs, which I haven't weighed since 8th grade. The older I get the less the experts say I should weigh. I am finally coming forward and really striving to become active in this forum as well as others because going it "alone" is not really accomplishing anything. It is so much easier to simple put it off for another day without the social push from other like-minded people. I was going to enter the George Foreman Knock out the Fat contest to win $2500, but something went wrong with their system and they did not receive my pre-entry in time for the final segment for this year. I am seriously thinking of entering the Healthy Weight Challenge but still have questions about their rules. Money, vanity, heck, the feeling of not being "as old" as I am physically, or even mentally, as old as I am feeling now. Has anybody seen the incredible morphing of a gal who lost 87 lbs posting on Reddit? I am using a homestyle variant of low carb.....25-35 grams of slow carbs, with healthier protein and fats, with plenty of fiber (even if I have to use mix in stuff). I saw you on the "What did you do today that you are proud of?" Message Board, and noticed that today's your first day with SparkPeople -- Welcome! I hope you find the community as helpful and as honest as I have. Making healthy life choices that will aid in weight loss are soooo much easier to stick to when we're not alone (well, I've found that's true for me, anyway).
