Tough markets can provoke important self-examination
I just “ain’t that good” as a leader and manager. The difference between me and most leaders in this business is that I know it. Not only do I know it, but I know exactly what “I’m not” and I’m working on fixing it. Because this is what it takes to survive in brutally competitive markets.
How did I figure this out? Facing down leadership challenges, annual anonymous 360-degree performance evaluations, posting results for all to see, hard questions I’ve asked my mentors and harder answers I’ve received.
Like a lot of you reading this, I used to think that I must be good because I was in charge.
I easily put my own opinion of myself before the opinions of those that followed me. I substituted drive and determination for effective leadership, strategy, and maturity. I evaluated my leadership solely on business results, instead of including people results. I could have rationalized any and all of it. But I’d be no further ahead now than I was many years ago. “Most guys top guys I know are focused on improving everything and everyone around them – except themselves.” Power, authority, status, or wealth can substitute for a clear-eyed view of our own deficiencies.
I convince and provoke you into a very intense personal and organizational effort. Are you honest enough and secure enough to take “touch love”, knowing this is not judgmental, just wanting to be more successful. What’s the point? Without brutal personal and organizational self-evaluation, you are unlikely to reach your leadership potential, and thus your organization will underperform. How many of us do not engage in the necessary soul searching to improve performance.
Self-knowledge and management is the foundation to successful long-term leadership capability. Learning the external tips and tactics to manage others is fine, but, ultimately, those are external enhancements for right now; you have to look at the long-term personal evaluation, rather than a one time event, promotion, or entitlement such as a degree or occupational position.
You’ve seen many fall short of their potential because they would not or could not be honest with themselves. They make enough money, they are tired, they don’t need it, they’ve heard it all before, been there and done that. They’ve paid their dues, their just too busy, too much ego on the line. Or just as likely, they were simply unwilling to dig into the challenge of self-development.
That is understandable. We often find things we don’t like about ourselves or our performance when we do it, which is precisely why we must do it. The polite term is self-deception. The true description is bulls##ting yourself.
Tough markets usually provide the shock to the system necessary to re-evaluate people, procedures, markets, and strategies. The same should apply to you and your leadership team.
No matter what else you do, your organization will not reach its profitability or growth potential until you put the money and effort into leadership development.
Make leadership development a priority in 2009. In this market, what got you here won’t get you to where you want to be. Take it from one who knows. You just ain’t that good. Yet.
Self-knowledge Checklist
· What are my main motivations: good and bad?
· What are my strengths and weaknesses in dealing with people?
· What is my fatal flaw and how does it affect people around me?
· What level of intuition do I bring to motivate others?
· What is my blind spot (that everyone else sees)?
· Can I take brutally honest feedback in service of my advancement?
· Am I secure enough in myself to lead well?
· How do I behave under extreme stress?
· What am I going to do with this information, and what resources or strategies am I going to use to improve my personal and organizational performances?
Who better to tell you the truth than yourself? If you do it for yourself, you do it for your business.

Other Information:
Rhubarb with White Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients:
1 Vanilla bean
1 3/4 cup Heavy cream
6 Rhubarb stalks
White Chocolate Mousse:
1 Lemon, juice
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 3/4 cup Water
3 1/2 oz White chocolate, chopped
Preparations:
· Servings: 4
· 1 Cut the rhubarb stalks into bite-size pieces. Gently cut the vanilla bean lengthwise to release the full flavor. Mix all the ingredients together except for the cream and chocolate. Simmer over a medium heat for 15 minutes. The rhubarb should fall apart when done. Set to one side and allow to cool.
· 2 Bring half of the heavy cream to the boil. Pour the cream over the chopped chocolate and mix with a hand-held mixer. Blend in the rest of the cream and leave to cool.
· 3 Serve the cold rhubarb mixture in dessert bowls. Beat the chocolate cream mixture until it resembles whipped cream and place a large dollop on top of the rhubarb.

Good Morning! Good Morning..... it nice to see you today, Good Morning Good Morning to you emoticon Like my singing emoticon . Hope that you drank lots of emoticon and spent some time with friends emoticon or family members.

July 4 turned out to be a blast though..water melon spit ball fights,water balloons fights, painting on the street with the little ones,just sitting laughing at funny things, I pray that you guys had a good time too. Even if you stayed at home.

emoticon Weekend is knocking at the door emoticon ,telling us take them emoticon shoes/sneakers off and slip on the flip flops, ok if its hot where your at emoticon its hot here 103 yesterday.

Here I am emoticon zooming by fast emoticon because I want to tell everyone have fun this weekend and a safe 4th of July emoticon ! EAT LOTS OF Q's from ALL THE HOUSES THAT YOU VISIT! (Q, means BARBECUE)

Drink up your water when your outside emoticon ,eat lots of emoticon , emoticon , emoticon this weekend perfect weather for this. And if you have really nice weather have a emoticon with your hubby and kids or just kids. Heck you can even enjoy this alone.

emoticon YEAH ITS HUMP DAY. Middle of the week day.

emoticon Good Morning,
emoticon Guess what we got some rain. We havent seen that in a LOOOOONG time emoticon

July emoticon is today. This morning I started my day perfect as always. I emoticon danced with a pickle in a hole because today Big Bird said to and he's my leader for the day emoticon . So who is your leader of the day emoticon ? emoticon Don't be shy you can tell me.

Yesterday I went to the bank I drove in and was going to park, at the same time my hubby called so I just pulled behind another car. We talked for a few seconds. He goes what are you doing? I tell him, I am waiting for this person to hurry up and move forward, wow I have never seen the bank so busy. We kept talking as I was filling out some forms in the car etc . He goes you still in line and I said yeah, I dont know why its not moving I kept looking forward to see why the cars are not moving,, I said let me hang up park the car and go inside.WE hang up. Oh my goodness when I started to drive backwards I notice I was in the banks employees parking lot. emoticon I had no choice but to sit there and laugh so hard. This is so me LOL

emoticon GOOD MORNING ITS MONDAY!

emoticon ZIPPEDY- DOO- DAH- ZIPPEDY -A................MY OH MY WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY emoticon Guess what I won the lotto emoticon just kidding we don't play it,lol.

Today you would be so proud of me I picked these emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon , emoticon from my garden for you and I didn't steal them this time from my neighbors yard emoticon emoticon .

We are going to have another 100 degree emoticon plus today..yeah, I love the emoticon , very much.

Oh yeah last night I went to my cousins house and they all said, Sonia your looking so good, what are you doing... My head inflated so much I couldn't stand I looked like the bobble head person as I smiled at them and wanted to really say, working my A$$ off at my gym and sweating like a mad dog, but instead I said ((oh I have been working out some)) as if it came all natural..(NOT) emoticon

Have a ZIPPEDY Monday, emoticon emoticon first day of the week my fav day...don't forget to water them plants emoticon ,and emoticon to feed them naked birds, plus emoticon drink up. Last but not least ever time you look in the mirror emoticon remember WERE HOT! I sizzle when i look in the mirror now even though I have this HUGE PIMPLE SIZE of a house on my cheek that woody wood pecker thinks its where he last was drilling...lol. So I have to hang low outside if not he fly's to my cheek to drill again.

emoticon Veggie Bacon soooo good my favorite, and some emoticon I really dont like this but I made it for you anyway, see the love and I also added some fresh fruit emoticon , emoticon , emoticon , emoticon and for last to drink I made some emoticon Tea, emoticon Coffee or emoticon all for you emoticon .

I hope that you had a great week and that you plan on having a super weekend, dont forget to try and get some emoticon , emoticon , emoticon , emoticon do that indoors if its too hot, and last but not least remind your self emoticon how BEAUTIFUL YOU ARE INSIDE and OUT.
