The title of my SparkPage is a tagline from one of my favorite movies, Galaxy Quest. This plucky statement was made by Commander Peter Quincy Taggart played by Tim Allen.

This statement, "Never give up, never surrender!" is to remind me that persistence is key to health and well being.

I joined this SparkPeople in 2005 to get a $150 insurance rebate from my then employer. I have since moved on to another job. I deleted my original corporate sponsored account and made my own personal identity as SPEEDYDOG. The support and the resources on this site are indispensable!

I played football in high school and college. I was an offensive tackle. I was not all that large (6' tall and 265 lbs) so I relied on strength and quickness. I was also on the track team. I ran the 1/2 mile and threw the shot and discus. I also boxed and wrestled. Like a lot of ex-athletes I gained weight easily.

As the years went by, my weight steadily increased. My health starting going downhill. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. My feet hurt all the time.

I lost weight on various plans but gained it all back. I was the typical yo-yo dieter. SparkPeople has helped me stabilize my weight. I have lost 60 pounds on SparkPeople. I am confident that I can reach my goals.

I am running again, I enjoy an occasional recreational race. I am having fun.

    Hi Bruce, good to see you here. So many of us "old timers" have left. And yes as we age, the more difficult it seems to lose even a couple pounds. But I know I am eating good foods and getting a lot of good exercise, so I'll live with whatever comes of it. I definitely remember your bike/car hit - that was a scary moment and the surgery nasty. Hope you are healing well. My ankles will never be the same, but I'm learning to live with it and trying to run smarter.

    I LOVE TRX for the same reasons you mentioned. Funny, I'm working out with my previous physical therapist on an informal basis now about once a month and when she learned I was in TRX, she was thrilled. I had a FMS (Functional Movement Study) a couple months ago and we all expected my ankles, etc. to be my weak point. Nope - core! So that's where the majority of my emphasis is now.
