I am a 46 year old single mother of 1 fantastic son who is an inspiration to me every day. I never had trouble with my weight until after he was born. I've done the yo-yo thing for 16 long years, and have wardrobes for every size from 6 to 16. I'm not getting any younger, and I have rheumatoid arthritis which will age my even faster than time does naturally. About a year ago I embarked on a serious quest for a healthy change in lifestyle. I used a website to track my calories, and, inspired by my son and his team mates, started exercising at a gym and running. I actually completed two 5K runs, and lost about 7 pounds, but then was knocked down by an arthritis flare. I couldn't exercise, lost interest in my dropping weight, and developed a very serious "why bother" attitude.

I decided it was time to get my act together when I realized that clothing I had purchased last spring does not fit this fall! Also, when I had trouble doing short hikes while on vacation this summer (not due to arthritis but simply being out of shape) I realized I was headed down a path of destruction.

I am under tremendous financial stress, still trying to recover from a divorce two years ago. My house is on the market and things aren't looking too sunny, but I have decided that I cannot let myself spiral downward.

I found this website and started tracking food based on the calorie limits suggested, and have begun walking (less impact on the ol' joints) and can do three 14 minute miles at a clip already.

My attitude is improving, even if my situation is not. I hope the weight will come off, my energy levels will go up, and my outlook will improve!

No one can do this for me, I have to do it myself. Posting this page is a big step for me. Next one...post on a message board!
