Kicking the Sugar Habit/ Living Life Primally
I started on Spark in Feb 2007 and at the end of summer 2007, I'd lost 30 pounds and reached a low weight of 144, and did my first triathlon on August 26 2007. I looked and felt awesome. Over the next two years, I would gain 10-15lbs in the winter, and then lose again in the summer. I started on Spark in Feb 2007 and at the end of summer 2007, I'd lost 30 pounds and reached a low weight of 144, and did my first triathlon on August 26 2007. I looked and felt awesome. Over the next two years, I would gain 10-15lbs in the winter, and then lose again in the summer. The same pattern has held true each year, but now I'm bouncing between a higher start and end weight -- the lowest I've been since summer 2008 is probably 160. Lots of little fits and starts to try to do better, but nothing has stuck. 6 years and I don't seem to have learned anything except how to yo-yo. I know HOW to lose weight, but I don't know how to motivate myself, or to maintain losses. For me it seems to be all or nothing, which is not a long term solution... Since starting crossfit in April 2012, I've dabbled in the paleo/primal lifestyle, and it's working for me. I'm more and more convinced, especially by the balanced "primal" approach.

My Goals:
I want to avoid my nemesis (sugar), be consistently active, and keep my body in a state in which I feel athletic and not slobby. I want to lose between 30 and 40 pounds total and find and maintain a healthy adult weight. I want to continue improving my running and biking strength and speed and continue to compete in races. I want to continue to improve and PR at crossfit. Complete my first 1/2 marathon (with little to no walking.)
My Program:
Eat lots of veggies! No sugar or processed food. Keep grains to a bare minimum except on high cardio days. Drink lots of water and get lots of good fat and protein. Crossfit 2-3x week. Add activity into daily life wherever possible. Enjoy cardio whenever I want.
Personal Information:
I'm Martha, I'm 33, from Virginia, but living in Connecticut with my fiance and our cat. I work a desk job that involves travel monthly.
Other Information:
Music is central to my life and keeps me going. A good song will make me move, or help conquer my fear if I'm trying to ski a hard trail. I also like to read, and like re-reading favorite books (I think I must have the record for number of times reading Pride and Prejudice.)
