As a dietitian, I'm always looking for new ideas to promote healthy eating and fun ways to be physically active. Though I've never been excessively overweight, I gained about 25 pounds since my 21st birthday and retired in August 2012. Around age 50 (about 14 years ago), I started walking regularly. Five years ago, I added resistance and flexibility exercises, and now I'm walking/running three miles a day. Though retired from a full-time job, I'm struggling with how to keep up my exercise ...
Though retired from a full-time job, I'm struggling with how to keep up my exercise practices. Weighing 124 but still have a goal of 120 or even 116 (my ideal goal). Retirement offers special challenges since there "suddenly" seems to be more opportunities to eat out with friends (who don't usually watch what they eat!). I am working on healthier foods to fix at home and finding ways to get my physical activity in.

SparkPoints: 49,400

Fitness Minutes: 21,589

My Goals:
I'd like to keep adding healthy foods options to my overall eating plan and add new exercises and increase my number of minutes being physically active

My Program:
I pack plenty of fruits and veggies to snack on during the day and include other healthy foods like Greek yogurt, almonds, high fiber snacks. I always wear my pedometer (sometimes to bed by mistake!) and have a goal of at least 12000 steps a day. Still working on getting 7 - 8 hours of sleep a night.

Personal Information:
I'm an Air Force brat who moved to Texas back in 1972 (I now consider a Texan -- got here quick as I could!). With retirement, I'm looking forward to exploring new paths to walk, trips with friends that involve walking/hiking/canoeing or other healthy activities.

Other Information:
My favorite color is green; my favorite animal is an elephant, and my favorite quote is: "Live so that when your children think of honesty and integrity, they think of you". I've been married to the same guy for more than 36 years, and have one grown daughter who is a professional librarian.

Thank you so much for your lovely email. The reason I got so many Sparkpoints is that I was about to retire from my full-time job and I was just OBSESSING over the points. Literaly obsessing! Spending hours just accruing points. I just lately decided that I have ENOUGH points and that I'm only going to concentrate on logging my food, getting my little "starter" exercise and stretches going and slowly improving, spending the time I've been obsessing over points on trying to learn what to do on the Texas team, and quit obsessing over points, points, points. I LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU ARE A REGISTERED DIETITION! What a great job! And yes, the surgeries went well and the radiation treatments seem to be going well (this is the end of my first week out of 6). Warm Regards, Cathy

Just cruising through leaving ya with some motivational thoughts for today:

“There are two ways of exerting one’s strength: one is pushing down, the other is pulling up.” ~ Booker T. Washington

“If you must begin then go all the way, because if you begin & quit, the unfinished business you have left behind begins to haunt you all the time.” ~ Chogyam Trungpa
